I wasn't really serious, and what's that supposed to mean?

the reason I am asking is there is a good chance I will be a brit soon.

You will be accepted definitely, depending on where you intend on living. Where abouts are you thinking of going?

going for a two week vacation at christmas for sure, then will move there in mid to late february '08.

Exactly. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Even though that war happened a long time ago, people from the north are still considered outsiders when they move to the south by many.

No. They're not.

Yes they are, I come from a redneck family and have been to the country. I'm the first person on my dad's side of the family to not be a redneck in many years.

Soho's a decent place, dodgy in parts, but a good night out.

There's zero chance you'll be a Brit, chances you'll live in Britain, maybe.

You'll be an American living in Britain, you won't become British.

And no, to the thread starter. I think what you're referring to is the fact that there are a lot more anglophiles in American than there are the opposite. You won't often see a Brit of reasonable intelligence feel like he or she have been left out of a joke around Americans, I can't count the amount of times Americans have actually asked me what certain things mean.

I personally find it quite annoying that due to the live-in-our-bubble nature of general America, people can often see England as some adorable place of knights and tea where we all speak like, as someone said before, "chimney sweepers". That's the only thing that bothers me.

"Live-in-our-bubble nature of general America" Seriously, what planet do you live on?

You're stereotyping, the majority of America isn't the 'closeted unintelligent hick living in a trailer'.

The Air Conditioner is British?

Talk about feeding the stereotype. 😑

Watch you'll be labeled an anglophobe for pointing out his mistake.

Who said you had to be unintelligent and a hick to live in a bubble? It doesn't even imply intentional ignorance, as I know many aware and smart Americans.

It was a reference to such things as American TV and media showing, in relation to media in other countries, much less of the world around it and much more of it's own business. I can go to Canada or Spain and watch things that will tell me about goings on, minor or major, in pretty much anywhere.

When you go to America, you're lucky to hear about anything that doesn't involve the place.

It wasn't a comment about the populace, more so about the way things are portrayed to the populace, which does have an effect, even on a lot of the smarter Americans. There's a reason America is chocked full of Europhiles, Rob. It's because Europeans generally know a lot more America than America knows about Europe. There are, of course, exceptions, many, but it's still the case.

Europe is greatly exposed to American culture, from our TV shows and cartoons as kids, to music. You didn't grow up watching British TV and culture shows did you? How many big movies from England did you love when you were a kid? Exactly. We are more exposed to you than you are to us.

I come from a northern family (New York City, Philadelphia) that moved to the south, and lived there for the first 18 years of my life. No. They're not.

Not true...both the US and the UK have been expose to each other for decades... in movies, music, and art....it is only with the UK that the US have been more open to. The rest of Europe...didn't open themselves much.

Look at that the air conditioner's blowing out alot of wind again. If you really knew that much about american culture you'd know how to easily find out about the rest of the world while here. Simply because you as an individual aren't bright enough to figure out how means nothing about the overall ability to find out. My grandmother loves the British detective shows. Personally I like The British shows as well, Dr. Who., Red Dwarf, Monty Python etc.

You're right about europe knowing a great deal about our culture they even imitated one of our tv shows:
French version of who wants to be a millionaire.

I'll agree that it was mostly the UK, but what did you want to achieve by saying we've been exposed to each other for years? The balance is entirely in Britain's favour with regards to who's been exposed to who.

Yes, because as proven, you know and your Grandmother know a great deal about British culture...I mean, the most famous British shows ever shown in America. Yes, I can see how that equates to the American media giving much attention to the general cultures around the world, both minor and major.

(It doesn't, at all.).

It's also annoying that some Americans, and you, think you know British culture because you watch our comedy.

Oh Lordy PLEASE tell me you are joking, Creshosk...

WWTBAM is a BRITISH tv show. You copied it from us. Europe did also.

I meant "British citizen." I am not going to actually consider myself British, just another wetback.

I disagree. a while back I was dealing with a group of British travellers, and they were asking me about american slang. One of them, an attractive woman, was being hit on by an american guy, and she had trouble understanding whay he was getting at. then again, maybe they were all dumbasses.

-AC [/QUOTE] not all Americans share that view of Brits.

And its annoying to be judged by idiots who haven't taken the time to read through a thread. I listed off as requested some british shows I watched while growing up.

"How many big movies from England did you love when you were a kid? Exactly."

Go back and look through the thread before you pass judgment on a person.

Doews anyone else find it funny how frequently people seem to condesend and just happen to be British. I know its just a string of coincedenses, but you really get a feel for where that bloody blasted stereotype comes from when you hear certain people talk about America.

If you'd clicked on the link you'd have seen I was joking.

No, actually I never bothered to learn where that ridiculous show originated from. I've watched like one or two episodes and thought it was rather silly.
