Gog is back... someone mentioned on the last page the theory that Gog is the one killing the New Gods, citing the reference on Rip Hunter's chalkboard... plus with the JSA stuff, with the mentions of a "god" and the word "Go-" (the last letter obscured) in the factory where old KC Superman appeared from... man, I would not be surprised if it was Gog killing off the New Gods.
but personally, I hope it's Deadshot.

The chalkboard in Booster Gold 5; and as to the motive, yeah, I guess he doesn't have a real motive to slaughter the New Gods- but something about him desiring to gather their power to himself? I wouldn't be too surprised by that- with all the focus DC has been putting into their comics recently to make allusions to Kingdom Come, it's not that far-fetched that Gog might be involved in a major event like this.

👆Damn Rip, and his ever changing chalkboards!! durfist
That's the thing when you're a time traveler- you gotta have a chalkboard to tell you what's going on. I imagine it would be inconvient to come back from a long time-trip and not have something to remind you what you're supposed to do that day.
"KG: Pretty much so. I think there are a lot of books from DC going in that direction. I mean, when Didio called me up and said, "We're doing this book called Death of the New Gods," my first thought was, "Finally!" You know, how long ago was that created? How long are we going to march in the same steps with this stuff?
I joke around that there was a time where Darkseid was being passed around the DC offices like a bong. [laughs] It's time to start adding to the pot, so to speak. I would rather create a new villain or a new character or page through the DC Encyclopedia and find some villain to revive who hasn't been used and abused. I would love it if DC were to turn around and just say, "You know what? In 2008, anybody working on a book can just have the hero and his supporting cast. I want new characters, I want new concepts and I want new situations. And I want one a month."
NRAMA: And that would be right up your alley?
KG: It would be right up a lot of people's alleys. There are a lot of people out there that are coming up with these wonderful concepts and ideas. I'm sure there would be people who would be hard put if something like that would happen. But we're in the storytelling business wherein there's a very high sense of wonder level. And you can't just keep cannibalizing concepts that have come before. You have to keep pushing things forward. You have to keep taking risks."
Giffen perfectly articulates why I'm more than fine with the New Gods dying.
