You're missing my point.Custom systems require more dedicated trust and can caquse bigger hassles in a rules disute by their very nature as a custom system. ๐ I'm not bashing them. I do enjoy them. But they're harder to do rigth with the more casual players.
Meh, I still prefer custom systems. The ones I've played fit the setting a billion times better than any 'official' one created.

This is a point. Seen plenty of less dedicated RPers quail at, say, Ush's custom systems. But again, Paranoia. Easiest system to get into of any ever made.
Hehe. That's always fun. Watch a bunch of people join up and then watch them drop like flies...
And that's because there barely is one ๐

Like Tabletop at ACen. The whole building is a nexus of geekery, and where are we? In the ****ing basement! ๐
Yuup, that's us!
Though we've definitely outgrown the function space we have. There's a possibility we'll be in one of the other hotels this year. Which is nice because more space, but bad because we'll lose a lot of the traffic we normally have ๐

I really don't know anyone offline who does, other than at ACen. Most of it I do online, here on KMC.

Overrated.
No, not really.

What's overrated? Tabletop games? They kinda suck, to be honest.
No they don't, they're awesome ๐

I must be confused...You can tabletop RP online?
Yep! It's not very difficult to convert a system to work online, and message boards are great for that sort of thing. Just, instead of everyone making their own dice rolls as you normally would when playing offline, the GM makes all of the rolls.
It's obviously not as fast-paced as it would be offline, but it works. And it's still better than any other form of RP (besides actually playing it offline of course), in my opinion ๐
Check out anything labeled as one of Ush's or Rex's, or Retrospection, games in the Hosted and SWRP forums.
I had most of our RP group wanting to kill me when I got to help playtest Ush's Matrix game offline a few summers ago ๐
I think they are overrated. Tabletop players I speak to time and time again says that it's the best form of roleplaying. I disagree. The only thing that actually makes it any better than Online roleplaying for example, is the fact that you're talking face-to-face.
I think tabletop is overrated. Dices and restrictions with it.

I rather trust my literal abilities than luck to mold my character ๐
It's not just luck. More realistic, though, certainly. Even someone who's excellent at something will screw up eventually.
Me, I'd rather just cut out the unnecessary fluff and get straight to the action ๐
(Though I must point out - you are not your character, so it's not your abilities you are trusting. ๐)

Not just luck, no, but there's luck. A lot of luck. I don't like luck or misfortune. The primary reason why I'm not too fond in tabletop is because I don't like leaving the fate of something I've created to chance.
My characters screw up from time to time without a dice being in charge ๐

You, then, are rare. The main reason why I've been severely turned off by the usual form of online RPing - beyond the fact that for some unknown reason people feel the need to fluff up posts with pointless garbage - is that there is little desire to ever want to see a character mess up.
And it's really not as much luck as you think it is. If you have a high score in something in particular, chances are you will do well with it. If you do not, chances are you won't. But just as in reality, sometimes things happen and it doesn't turn out as expected. And I vastly prefer that. And considering that most of the games I play - and like - are more action-based anyway, there's really no decent way of doing it without some sort of rules system.
And I'll state - even without dice, I merrily put my characters through hell. The character I play the most I created five and a half years ago, and I swear, were she real, I'd be dead in an instant for all the crap that happens ๐ On the other hand, every time I do something with her, a new facet of her personality - or some rationality for how she's turned out - pops up, which is a lot of fun.
