A larger travesty has never been thought of.

There never has been a land of Hyrule, nor has there ever been a great evil and there has never been a Legend of Zelda to begin with. Link wakes up in the funny farm only to realize that all of it was a lie. The Master Sword he's wielding is actually a baseball bat (this would explain why Link's enemies are never seen cut), the master shield is a lid to a garbage can, the enemies he fights are the security at the asylum, the fairy that gives advice is actually a light bulb, Zelda is actually an imaginary girlfriend, and Ganondorf is actually the boss of said funny farm.
