Once again, you are missing the point entirely. Just because you wouldn't allow a child to play a game does not make it mature. BMX XXX is a perfect example. Its whole shtick is doing well enough in the game to unlock soft-core porn. Would I let a kid play, no, but the content of the game is merely adult, not mature. Not for kids =/= mature.
I think what you are having trouble understanding is the exact meaning of mature here. This is maturity in the sense of being responsible, having wisdom from experience, being thoughtful or even sophisticated. The opposite of the immature, boundary-testing, sexually-controlled and impulse-following teen.
Stories like Zelda's demonstrate a great level of maturity with various darker elements that give adults just as much a sense of urgency and thrill as kids get from the "save the princess" goal.
Stories like GoW, with its focus on brutality, revenge, gore and sex, demonstrate a level of immaturity, directly appealing to teenagers still exploring their libido and reveling in the violence because they'd never be allowed if their parents knew what they were doing. It ties into the rebelliousness and desire to be seen as an adult that is the core of teenagers going through puberty.
My point is proven by the ratings of the games themselves. Gow is completely different than zelda and for the reasons it is zelda will never ever approach it in my mind as being anywhere near as graphic as gow.
Originally posted by PeachI suggest you actually take a look at the rating itself and quit arguing simply because you like zelda. you ignoring game ratings because you really like zelda is your problem not my own. ...wow. The point flew so far over your head that air traffic control is concerned.Yes, Zelda is designed for older audiences. It's also designed for younger audiences at the same time.
GoW is setting absolutely no bar other than "how much gratuitous violence can be crammed into a game".
So, let's try this again. The ONLY time "Mature" means "Violence, gore, and sex" is on an ESRB label.
GK pretty much covered the rest, so I suggest you invest in a dictionary.

What rating did it get?
Let me explain.
No, there is too much. Let me sum up.
I know more about how the ESRB works than pretty much anyone here. A HUGE portion of my job involves enforcing it.
An M-rating on a game DOES NOT MEAN IT IS ACTUALLY MATURE, IT JUST CONSISTS OF THINGS THAT ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR MINORS. It has nothing to do with the plot or anything like that, simply that the gameplay itself is considered too violent, gory, or sexual for minors. That is it. It's the same as an R-rated movie. It's considered restricted content.
How about you stop arguing until you actually comprehend the damn argument? Seriously, you've missed the point so many times now that I have to really wonder.

Indeed, the use of the adjective "Mature" is a quirk of the ESRB. PEGI's "Mature"-level rating is simply 16. CERO uses an A-D scale, where D is equivalent to "M", and then Z equivalent to AO. Hell, the OFLC in New Zealand uses "Mature" to designate games recommended for 10 and up!
One rating board's use of a term does not set its definition. Do not be so foolish.

G, but that is only because the rating system is run by Nazis themselves.
Originally posted by SpadeKingI get their point it's wrong. I get that they think they are right but when the ratings match up and use the actual word I have used and they ignore it it's their problem not my own.

Once again you have missed the point. The ESRB (which is not an official or required entity, by the way) merely uses "Mature" to differentiate 17+ from the more restrictive "Adults Only" rating, the way "R" differentiates from "X."Indeed, the use of the adjective "Mature" is a quirk of the ESRB. Originally posted by PeachYeah telling me I missed the point when the word mature on a rating means anything but mature. Handling concepts such as gore, sexual content, et.c has to do with maturity itself. That's why 7 year olds shouldn't play these games like gow because generally on average they aren't mature enough to handle them on their age.
