Yeah telling me I missed the point when the word mature on a rating means anything but mature. Handling concepts such as gore, sexual content, et.c has to do with maturity itself. That's why 7 year olds shouldn't play these games like gow because generally on average they aren't mature enough to handle them on their age.So you're saying they use words they don't mean. Please, please, please tell me you aren't serious. We say it's a mature rating but we don't really mean the word mature, right?
All you need is blood for a game to get a mature rating right away with ESRB ermm

You know what?
Only a subset of a definition even fits the point you are trying to make. Mature is used by the ESRB to mean adult. They don't use the word 'adult' though, since there is already an Adults Only rating which is a death knell for a game. And that doesn't even cover the fact that other countries rate games differently, which you so blithely ignored.
And quite frankly, I would say that an obsession with violence, gore, and sex is not a very mature trait at all and is rather a symbol of mental immaturity.

The average idiot American child.

MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
ADULTS ONLY
Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity.
In this country an adult is recognized at 18 not 17.

Other guys, I am making a point, right? If I'm not making sense, please tell me. I could swear I'm being absolutely logical, but the sheer lack of any understanding in this discussion is making me doubt the strength of my position.

I mean of course, here, that the true definition of the word, and the forced definition of the ESRB rating, are not equal.

No, you are making sense, this is just Quanchi. 😐 He actually spent about 40 pages actually insisting TP Link doesn't have super strength. Yeah.

If an adult in the US is 18 (a spurious argument in itself, but I digress), then does not the fact that the "Mature" rating begins at 17 shed doubt on the position that "Mature" means "sex, language, gore, not for kids"? A 17-year-old is still legally a minor.
You're making sense to me. Actually, I see where he is coming from. But its a very narrow bit of thinking. He see's the M, calls it "Mature", and is done with it. See's the E, calls it "Kid".

I know what the ratings are. Far better than you do, I'm sure. I didn't need to run off to wikipedia for that info.
And you might have a point with "adults are 18" if the ESRB was legally mandated. Which it is NOT.
Mature simply means that it contains content not considered appropriate for most minors, period. A kid can still buy an M-rated game with parental permission, for example. An AO-rated game? Retailers won't even touch them with a ten-foot pole.
Just...gah. How is this difficult to understand? Everyone else seems to get it just fine.
Originally posted by General KalieroThe ratings themselves all have to do with maturity itself. They rate the games based on ages they feel can handle the themes of a certain game. GOW games are for an older audience and if you'd ask the creators they'd agree. I have even heard the dante's inferno creators say we didn't make this for kids.

Zelda games are made for kids not adults can enjoy them as well but the themes in these games aren't as mature by the esrb as it considers the gow themes.
Theyuse the word mature not because they just picked a random word but because games like this are for older audiences than games with teen ratings.
If you were right about your position both the gow and zelda would have the same rating but they don't just like I stated it's obvious gow is for an older audience than zelda.
