Oh geez. I am not here to get into a huge debate about politics I don't even know how this started. Oh yeah someone insulted the united states.

I'm gonna let it go, because I have no desire to get into a political debate here, but I will say there is nothing preventing anyone from pointing out a corrupt country's faults.

The biggest one is marriage, and the general lack of recognition for anything other than heteronormative relationships. If you are in any sort of relationship other than standard 'married to someone of the opposite gender' type, you're SOL in the majority of the country. You cannot legally marry, you cannot be legally recognized as being in such a partnership, and then this extends over into things like next-of-kin, medical records, insurance, inheritances, and so on.

The fact that we have so little in terms of funding for healthcare, basic social services, and education, is really incredibly abhorrent, being as these are things that should be basic rights - and are in the rest of the world - and yet we can't even make sure that people get them.

Institutionalized racism and sexism is also still a huge, huge problem.

I'm not saying other countries are perfect - nowhere is - but the fact that the US is so far behind on so many things, with the amount of money and power this country has...and the fact that we go about the world trying to solve everyone else's problems when we're such a damn mess...

Clean up the mess in the house before taking care of the rest of the city, you know?

I do agree with that but it is the will of the people. I do find it sickening that the gay community cannot be recognized in marriage.

I think these problems still exist everywhere but with time hopefully they will dissipate.

I agree we should worry about ourselves before solving other countries problems which in the end usually doesn't happen and we just end up creating another problem for ourselves.

Well their attitude was prickish imo and basically stereotyping the american public. The funny thing is america usually wins the most medals at every olympics as well nowadays.

...gah!

Letting that one go, letting it go, letting it go...

Different topic, people, please.

It is true that this country called the United States is no longer the country our forefathers fought for... or at the very least, she is slipping.

Edit: Oops, sorry General.

Unfortunately, a huge problem is the general apathy the American public has that anything will even get done. Recent studies (I don't have links handy unfortunately, I did research into this back in December for a paper) show that more than half the American public does not have an issue with gay marriages being legalized. But when only a quarter of the populace actually bothers to vote...it's problematic.

And yes, problems like that do exist elsewhere. It's just the US has such a habit of sweeping things under the rug and going "Nope, not an issue".

And frankly, the cost of education just sickens me. It is not uncommon for it to cost upwards of $100k to attend college in the US. I could go to university in Canada, as an international student, and have it cost half of what I'm paying here. And in most of Europe? It's free, or so cheap it may as well be. And not only that, but our education system doesn't even come close to standing up to the rest of the world.

Very, very problematic.

However, I am one of those people who goes outs and votes, and tries to push for things, and so on. This place is a mess, but it's only going to get cleaned up if we do it.

Wow, I actually agree with pretty much your entire post. I warn you do not get used to this. 😉

Is it true to the series? That's my main worry.

Apparently they tried to fit all of season 1 into it. 😕

Tbh I don't know. I never knew there was a series until today I discussed it over with a girl I work with and found out enjoys it with her bf. I described the movie and recommended it and I think she was going to go see it but I have no clue how close it is to the actual series itself.

Damn it! I missed the America discussion. I always miss the good stuff. >_>

I heard Airbender movie sucked. Basically shit everything. Acting, fight scenes, bending, etc etc. Apparently the only decent actor was the fellow who played Iroh, it takes a bit of so-called dancing to do a simple bending technique, and Sokka doesn't crack a joke for almost the entire movie.

I haven't seen it, this is based entirely on one review from a blog on another website.

I've heard the same (on the utter shittiness of it) as well, but also from people who have seen it.

Not that I care, though. I never planned on seeing it. I dislike the Avatar series in general.

Avatar may be the best show I've ever seen on Nickelodeon to me. But I was never a big fan of most of their cartoons, and I still miss Kenan and Kel.

Who loves orange soda?

KEL loves orange soda! I do, I do, I do-ooooo!

How does everyone feel about Roller Coasters?

Kenan and Kel? Sounds familiar, but I forgot entirely about it.

They are the two kids from Good Burger.

Hate them, but when I get on I have fun. Then I go back to hating them.

I do not enjoy them. They just aren't something I think is entertaining.
