I do agree with that but it is the will of the people. I do find it sickening that the gay community cannot be recognized in marriage.I think these problems still exist everywhere but with time hopefully they will dissipate.
I agree we should worry about ourselves before solving other countries problems which in the end usually doesn't happen and we just end up creating another problem for ourselves.
Unfortunately, a huge problem is the general apathy the American public has that anything will even get done. Recent studies (I don't have links handy unfortunately, I did research into this back in December for a paper) show that more than half the American public does not have an issue with gay marriages being legalized. But when only a quarter of the populace actually bothers to vote...it's problematic.
And yes, problems like that do exist elsewhere. It's just the US has such a habit of sweeping things under the rug and going "Nope, not an issue".
And frankly, the cost of education just sickens me. It is not uncommon for it to cost upwards of $100k to attend college in the US. I could go to university in Canada, as an international student, and have it cost half of what I'm paying here. And in most of Europe? It's free, or so cheap it may as well be. And not only that, but our education system doesn't even come close to standing up to the rest of the world.
Very, very problematic.
However, I am one of those people who goes outs and votes, and tries to push for things, and so on. This place is a mess, but it's only going to get cleaned up if we do it.
