And Deerskin is not about Bambi's mother? Just double checking.

Nope. It is based on a Perrault tale called Donkeyskin.

Aw, I missed the 'dark themes' convo?

I remember when I first read what was behind the little nursery rhymes children used to say so often in the past... The Brothers Grim were very dark indeed.

Funny thing is the Grimm versions are largely sanitized from the originals.

No kidding. Ring-around-the-rosy, anyone? ๐Ÿ˜

Nemesis, listen to what Frollo is singing during that song. Or read the lyrics, which are in the description for the video. He is literally singing "I lust for this woman, but I'm better than that, so she must be a witch that's bespelled me and hence she deserves to burn in hell because I can't actually have her".

I never did pay that much attention to the lyrics nor the song for that matter. I never did care much for music until I was thirteen. Now that I know the lyrics, I now have a different view on this movie. I don't like it although I never did like it to begin with but I dislike it even more.

I said popularity is the bigger goal in terms of anything in life which usually doesn't mean it sucks. Di dI use the word never, no. Twilight is very successful and that's the point of all this. I find lok very original but it failed in terms of success. Sure it has a lot of loyal fans but it never ever went as mainstream as it could have otherwise I wouldn't have to deal with this company still churning out tomb raiders which I personally despise.

These are subjective topics and your opinion is only your opinion. The name of the game most often is making money and in that regard twilight is a huge success. Cry all you want about how stupid it is they are laughing themselves to the bank.

Dun't care.

I'll say it again, slowly, incase you have a hard time understanding.

Popularity. Means. Nothing.

Did I use the term, "always"? No. Lots of popular things are actually well done. But, the popularity of something never dictates how well it actually is.

I could give a shit if Twilight was successful or not. The point is, in your post, you said that if something is popular, it usually doesn't suck. This is false.

Twilight, for all it's success, is complete and utter shit. This is fact. It is horribly written. This is fact.

It's successful, sure. Dun't care. But, successful or not, it sucks. Ass. It is a piece of shit that has ruined the term "vampire", and never should have been written, let alone published. It is a horrible piece of work that will not be remarked upon as good by professional critics, despite its popularity. It sucks

Stop talking like your opinion is fact, as it is, infact, not worth shit. It is neither solid fact, as much as you BAWWWWWWWW about it, nor is it valued. Go ask the other members if you want confirmation.

Oh for... how does comprehending its depth suddenly make it bad?

So, on the subject of books. What does everyone think of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? I was probably years late to the party on these, but I still love them.

And if you have read Hitchhiker's, do any of you guys read some Jasper Fforde stuff?

I added a little extra in my post btw: "I don't like it although I never did like it to begin with but I dislike it even more."

But why do you dislike it? I really am honestly curious.

I never liked tHoND myself. The story was boring to me. Not "fantastical" enough, for me.

The movie felt a tad bit odd, some scenes disturbed me, I didn't like the music (and since I now like music, I can now criticize and say the music in that movie wasn't good imho), story felt blegh, and I just don't like that Hunchback character and I disliked him before knowing he thought that woman should go burn in Hell.

I have to wonder about your taste in music, because HOND had one of the best soundtracks of any Disney movie. And it's not even a favorite of mine.

Also...Frollo was the one singing that song about Esmerelda going to hell, not Quasimodo (the title character of the movie). Two completely different characters.

he didn't think that, he loved Esmeralda... it was the priest.... How much do u actually know about the movie, and how long has it been since you watched it? U might need to watch it again to form a good opinion.

...

I'm sorry, but no.

For one, you are not meant to like Frollo, seeing as he is a contemptible, hypocritical and self-righteous villain. He is meant to be disliked, and obviously in that aim he is a success.

This is the part that hurt me most:

I am truly sorry, but if you truly believe this, you do not actually like music. Let's have another example: Bells of Notre Dame, the opening song of the movie.

YouTube video

My god, this chorus. Clopin's opening narration to a gentle, fluttering string accompaniment, slowly bringing in the titular bells themselves. The rising strings and brass as the story of Quasimodo's origins continues on. Then the Latin chants, ironically placed against the corrupt Frollo and his sinful actions. The rising and deepening lines of Dies Irae, up to the climactic hanging of the baby over the well... and the rumbling interruption of the Archdeacon... just this single song is near musical perfection.

I refuse to believe you are talking about the same movie.

you, sir, are a 2000 f*g.... if you was into Disney in the 90's then either Aladdin or Lion King was WIN. Don't add things that weren't the classics. I like Lilo and Stitch too, but it doesn't compare to the greats. ๐Ÿ˜›

...so, I have to say, I totally adore the fact that my boyfriend geeks out over Disney movies nearly as much as I do <3

That's because it's fun to geek out over Disney movies! ๐Ÿ˜„

I think it's annoying personally. ๐Ÿ˜

<3 you both, though.

Thank you for saying what I wanted to.

Lilo & Stitch was the first truly obvious falter in Disney's main line of movies, and I felt that even sitting in the theatre seeing it for the first time. The event horizon of the slip that led to the mess that Disney is today.
