I cannot flame fictional characters now? D=

Or was that not PG-13? Thought it was but will keep note of this if not.

Also, forgot about Macbeth, WHICH I DID LIKE. Also liked Beowulf personally.

I read a selection from Beowulf for school, and then found and read the full story in my free time. The Ballad of the White Horse as well, which is a mytho-historic poem about Alfred the Great at the Battle of Ethandun.

Hey now, calm that down.

I think my favorite forced-to-read-for-school-book was Macbeth. Though I read all of the ones mentioned, as well as Lord of the Flies.

As for the film's quality, there were some elements superior to the book, some elements inferior. It was a damn sight better than the 1931 film, which was so slow and dull I couldn't manage the first half hour before skipping to the end and being disappointed at the lack of payoff concerning Dracula's death.

I did not enjoy Lord of the Flies. Lot of the characters just weren't that believable for me.

Oldman Drac had one hell of a stache though.

You sound like my mother. She utterly hated the book.

The Oldman version is better for that very reason, among a few others, in my opinion.

Though Oldman Dracula in his geriatric form looks a lot like Darth Sidious to me, for some reason.

He reminded me of Sidious as well, except for that hair. I swear I was waiting for that ridiculous braid to choke the life out of Keanu.

Younger Drac was quite a looker, though. Not many can rock shoulder-length hair and a top hat.

Hated most everything I read in High School. Only one I sorta liked was Wuthering Heights. Oddly enough, the "classics" that I read on my own time.

Wonder if I should go get a copy of Macbeth and read it.

Also, these autoplaying ads need to end.

Wuthering Heights was exceptionally boring for me when I read it in Grade 7. Though I liked it when I read it later.

But Christophee Lee actually looks a lot like Dracula.

Legitimately. mmm

That's the only reason why I liked the 1958 Dracula.

That and Christopher Lee is a definition of Awesome.

That hairstyle was laughably ridiculous. I do not understand why they used that hairstyle.

Don't forget the Shades.

So apparently we're going to have an absurdly strong storm tomorrow.

Haha, yeah, we're supposed to get like 80mph winds tonight, oh boy...

Anyway, I disliked most books we had to read in school. Dracula was the one I actively rebelled against, though; I got through the first couple of chapters and just went "**** it, I'm not reading this boring piece of tripe" and refused to pick it back up again. Also did not like Lord of the Flies.

I did love Brave New World, though; probably my favorite thing I read in school. Beowulf and Hamlet were also awesome, and I liked the Scarlet Letter and the Once and Future King a lot as well.

One of Shakespeare's best. I'd definitely recommend it, though you should look for a version with a glossary included. It'll make it a hell of a lot easier to understand.

Oh, Scarlet Letter! That was another good one. I still need to read The Once and Future King.

I remember one time I was sick and bedridden for a week, and read the entirety of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings between fitful sleep. I think I was 13 at the time?

My school didn't even make me read in 7th Grade. Sad too, might have helped me develop a taste for books earlier on. ๐Ÿ™

Once and Future King is awesome <3

And nice job ๐Ÿ˜› Up until last year, when I didn't have the time for it, I'd re-read LOTR every Christmas break.

Heh. I developed my taste for books before I even started kindergarten...

The best book I read this year was The Brief and Wondrous life of Oscar Wao. I enjoyed Beowulf a lot. Things fall apart... A masterpiece.

80MPH WINDS??

FAWKING AWESOME.

I would run out there, and test my strength and run against the wind.

*dreams*

I personally like HP Lovecraft. Still read his stories, FOR FUN.

I'm actually not a big Lovecraft fan. I dunno, something about it never captured my interest much.

I've come to the conclusion that Neil Gaiman needs to write more books, though.

That's fine. DO NOT NEED TO LIKE IT JUST CAUSE OTHERS DO or something.

What of him have you read? mmm

Oddly enough, I think I did as well. Though can't recall many of the books, since they were just for little kids. And then things happen and I hate everything for years to come.

So....what's everyone's favorite book?

Of who, Lovecraft or Gaiman? I can't remember what Lovecraft I've read, it's been a few years since I attempted him and gave up.

Gaiman, I think I've read everything except Anansi Boys. Good Omens (written with Terry Pratchett and one of the funniest books ever), American Gods, Stardust, Neverwhere, Smoke and Mirrors...those are the ones I own ๐Ÿ˜›

I started reading when I was like three years old. I'd gone on to chapter books (Ramona Quimby and the like) by the time I'd started kindergarten.

Favorite book...gah...that's a hard one. I suppose I'll have to go with the Princess Bride.

Hard to say.

Love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, of Lovecraft's stories The Shadow Out of Time and At the Mountains of Madness are prolly my favorites, I liked Dracula quite a bit, though it does have some admitted faults.

MEH.

Need to start reading more again. But been lazy.

Outside my school reading, I read Dune, Harry Potter(when I was in elementary), Star Wars EU series, and Warhammer 40k novels.
