Woohoo, official off-topic thread!

I actually haven't read any Lovecraft, though I like a lot of Lovecraftian concepts.

Gaiman, though, Gaiman is awesome. All the ones Peach mentioned, and let's not forget Coraline.

I was taught to read with Dr. Seuss' Go Dog Go, before entering Kindergarten.

Favorite book is... really tough. Too many genres.

Of who, Lovecraft or Gaiman? I can't remember what Lovecraft I've read, it's been a few years since I attempted him and gave up.

Gaiman, I think I've read everything except Anansi Boys. Good Omens (written with Terry Pratchett and one of the funniest books ever), American Gods, Stardust, Neverwhere, Smoke and Mirrors...those are the ones I own πŸ˜›

Lovecraft, since you do not like him. πŸ˜› Well, even I can admit that the quality of Lovecraft's stories can wildly vary. The Shadow Out of Time was an epic piece of Cosmicism, whereas Herbert West - Reanimator was kind of blargles. Unless you look at it as a comedy. In which case it is pretty good. 😐

I have read nothing of his. 131

I actually own Coraline though, should probably get off my ass and read it. 😐

Outside my school reading, I read Dune, Harry Potter(when I was in elementary), Star Wars EU series, and Warhammer 40k novels.

**** yes, Dune w00t

Not those shitty new books that Frank Herbert's kid has been writing the past decade (I got through...like a half dozen of them before giving up), but the original books are great. Even though the quality definitely drops off after God Emperor of Dune.

And I will always love the Harry Potter books.

My favorite author is Tamora Pierce, I've loved her since I was a kid. GK is in possession of my copies of some of her books right now 😊

Oh! Deerskin, by Robin McKinley. Amazing book. Definitely one of my top favorites.

I r-read a book by Karen Traviss once. πŸ™

I'm sorry for your loss.

My school didn't even make me read in 7th Grade. Sad too, might have helped me develop a taste for books earlier on. πŸ™

I started reading when I was kid. Mostly were just books like the Hardy Boys Series. I really liked the Five Find Outers series by Enid Blyton, and Roald Dahl wrote awesome stuff. Plus there were stories about a character called Brer Rabbit that I loved.
I read the entire collection of the Sherlock Holmes' stories soon after that. (up until his 'death' during the fight with Moriarty) Can't remember much after that.

That's pretty much what I can remember of my history. I read a lot though, and I still do.

Oddly enough, I think I did as well. Though can't recall many of the books, since they were just for little kids. And then things happen and I hate everything for years to come.

So....what's everyone's favorite book?

Way too hard to answer. Dune (read a couple of the books recently, and loved them) and Hyperion Cantos are my two of my favourite sci-fi novels/novel series.

Charles Dickens and Mark Twain are among my favourite writers.

Soon I plan to be a bawss and force myself to read the entire Twilight series, to prove my manly fortitude and to justify my hatred of them.

You're welcome.

I don't have a favorite book, though if I did it'd probably be something like...

Can't force myself to choose one.

The entire Twilight series?

You'll lose brain cells and you'll no longer be an exceptional being. 313

There is no arguing me out of this.

WILL do it.

I'm so impatient I can't even complete the stealth section in the deku palace(Majora's Mask)... this is why I hate stealth games.

laughcry

My favourite book has been The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy for a while.

I also quite enjoyed Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead.

The best thing I read in American High Schoo was probably Nine Stories or Beowulf. In German school it was Faust, which is one of the best books ever, anyways.

I read a lot of Science Fiction when I was younger, many of the classics like Dune, Childhood's End, Rendezvous with Rama, 2001 a Space Odyssey, Foundation, Caves of Steel, I, Robot, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451, Ender's Game. My favourites of those are definitely the Heinlein ones, Stranger in a Strange Land and The Moon is a Harsh mistress are some of my all time favourites.

I also love Brave New World and 1984 for different reasons. 1984 actually made me feel quite bad for a while.

A good book I read while in the US was Gulliver's Travels I enjoyed that a lot.

A good, modern German book a I read a while ago was "Herr Lehmann".

I read the Alchemist by Paulo Cohelo, though I found that a bit disappointing, two books that generated a similar feel but were on the whole a lot better imo were Γ‰ric-Emmanuel Schmitt "Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran" and "Oscar and the Lady in Pink"

Well my internet works well again, so if sometime anyone wants to play Reach, I might give it a go.

You went to Highschool in the States for awhile Bardock?

Yeah, I lived in Maine for a year.

We read bits of that in my German class in high school; I remember wishing we had the time to read through it entirely. Maybe I should do that. It'd force me to actually practice the language a bit and not forget everything I learned.

Wow, that's pretty dope. One day you and I need to have a long and potentially embarrassing talk about your life and all of the adventures within it.

If you can, you really should. It is the German language at its prettiest.

Why would it be embarrassing, I'm nothing but awesome all life through.
