There are so many studies that say so many conflicting things. Even your own says it cannot give the edge to either.
Therefore, I will arbitrarily give the edge to the creature that is more loving (undeniable), and is more versatile (undeniable) in various functions.

Good man, good word.

Cats have more neurons and better senses. 😮So Cats>Dogs.
Why don't you try to explain what better neurons would even correlate to here, as it certainly doesn't make them more intelligent in the end does it? It definitely correlates with their greater reaction times and such of course. Better senses? They don't have a better sense of smell at least--not even close to equal.
In what way? As athletes, sure. In everything else, nope. Cats are also responsible for the horrid Neko/cat girl trope that pollutes anime.
Final word? Bears are related to dogs. Bears are not related to cats. Ergo, dogs win. /thread.

I fail to see how dogs could be considered more versatile, especially with Savannah cats in the mix. Savannahs in particular can be trained to walk on a leash and play fetch, love water, and can be just as sociable as dogs.

Capacity. 😮
And apparently on the average cats do tend to have a better sense of smell. Just specific dogs have a great sense of smell.
For animals being athletic is quite advantageous. Cats are also responsible for lol cats. Because cats have comedic timing.
Cats are also related to tigers. And lions. And Aslan. 😮
Oh yeah and this guy.
"More loving" is a subjective opinion, not objective. My cats could always be counted on to guard and curl up with me when I was a kid.
That's all? My runt sized golden retriever fought off a large coyote to save my damn life when I was like four.
Not simply subjective, just simply common sense based on what love is construed as. Cats simply do not go to the extremes that Dogs do for their owners. Dogs can do all the low level things that cats do that is called affection, but hearing of a cat taking on a group of other viscious animals that is attacking their owner is something you will never find. It's certainly not selfless like a dog can be.

You bring up a single breed that can do things that any dog can do without training? I won't bother listing all the functions dogs have.

Um, dogs are not undeniably more loving than cats...I would in fact definitely give cats the edge in that.
You'd be dishonest then.
Dogs live for their owners. On the other hand, you are just a convenient source of warmth and consistent resources for a cat.
How would I be dishonest? Just because dogs do really stupid things doesn't make them more loving. Dogs are territorial, that's why they do things like that, not because they feel any loyalty to you.
Have you ever seen a cat depressed because their favorite person is gone? I have, and it's far more heartbreaking than anything I've seen from a dog.
