Its not the same as mind rape, Both Ares and to some degree Zeus simply put him in this little pocket dimension of his past, Ares doing so by creating a vortex that puts him there. The final product of that is trying to make Kratos realise something, that he was a monster that and to weaken his resolve to fight when hes too busy whimpering. Of course, that did not happen.

Badass. Long story short, it's a pretty subjective term that covers characters that are exceptionally tough, skilled, strong, or otherwise good at fighting or similar actions. They do incredible things a normal person probably can't, or do more mundane things in impressive ways.
