Can't stand Star Trek. Nor do I understand what people find likeable about it ๐Ÿ˜›

Indeed. High-brow science fiction? **** that noise.

Which makes me wonder, guys: Anyone like Star Trek? And if so, which series is your favorite?

DS9, TNG and the Original Series are all quality programming imo. It woulod be hard to choose between them. They're all great when they're great and just ****ing awful when they're bad.

I wouldn't be able to choose personally.

"**** that noise" is all thats needed.

So MLP cast John de Lancie himself for the Q-like Discord. I am incredibly pleased with this decision and shout-out to adult sci-fi fans.

It's a funny thing. I like sci-fi and I like quite a few sci-fi shows, but Star Trek just doesn't work for me.

I've seen a bit of the various Star Trek series'. And I'd have to say TNG was my favorite if only for Picard.

I've never actually sat down and watched a Star Trek episode.

That actually surprises me greatly.

For me, I prefer TNG. Picard, Riker, Data, Worf... great bridge crew.

You're not missing much ๐Ÿ˜›

I had a friend in high school that loved Star Trek, and kept trying to get me into it and to watch it and no matter what she showed me it was just...crap.

I'm great at getting people into things I like, but usually it doesn't work so well the other way around ๐Ÿ˜›

Well, the later seasons at least. Early TNG is literally unwatchable.

Also SFDebris Trek reviews are fantastic. I love that stuff. Its addictive.

Not really a fan of it either, though it did play a pretty big inspiration in the creation of Star Wars.

Where'd you come up with that? No it didn't.

If Riker doesn't have a beard, don't watch it. Basically it's a guaranteed good episode of Q or the Borg are around, though.

Dunno, Picard seems like a man you'd admire.

How? Star Wars was inspired by Flash Gordon serials and old world myth and religion. Star Trek took inspiration from classical stories like Horatio Hornblower and the idealistic, utopian lifestyle of future society. Star Wars is science fantasy, while Star Trek is science fiction. Star Wars is a swashbuckling, sweeping drama of good vs. evil, Star Trek is slower and focuses on morality, ethics, and justice.

I actually did an essay on this topic back in high school, as the final for my writing course.

What, really? Didn't know you could do that.

Homeschooled. There are occasional moments of badass. Such as when the grader mails back said essay with a note saying it was a topic they'd never seen before and wished more were as fun to read.

My experience with English courses is that teachers are less fussy on what you're writing about, so long as you meet the parameters. I've written some utterly ridiculous papers for classes before. I also wrote a Matrix short story for a creative writing class I was in, as well as another short story that essentially chastised most of the class for acting like complete children ๐Ÿ˜›

Why homeschooled?

Hm, Matrix and Star Wars as for the English course.. should have chosen to do that instead o-o Though we had a lot of restrictions on creativity at my school :/

Why homeschooled?

I was in Massachusetts at the time. Third grade. They were pandering education to the lowest common denominator. I was reading the Hobbit while classmates were struggling with The Cat in the Hat. So I got bored with what was being taught, and distracted myself, and then the teachers would try to catch me off-guard with questions and I would always know the answers. Got to the point where it was such a disruption for the teachers that the principal called my parents in, and when they were told the situation they decided **** the school and pulled me out so I could learn at my actual level.

You can ask for a temp ban when you report a post if you think there's reason. It will still be at the discretion of the mod, but they'll take your request into consideration.
