Somewhat clever in execution, though. Most people will be too concerned about ensuring their economic stability to really care about what's going through congress, unless of course it involves variables to ensuring said stability.

Don't be so sure about that. Congress currently has a 9% approval rating, due to the fact that they've been wasting their time with things like voting to reaffirm "In God we trust" as the US's motto (despite the fact that we never should have had that as a motto to begin with as it's unconstitutional) and trying to censor the internet, and they've also been denying every single jobs bill that Obama's been trying to push through.

Essentially, people are noticing, and they aren't happy. The ****ery that's been going on with the Occupy protests isn't going to help them any, either.

Country is going down the ****ing shitter, yet Congress finds perfect time to declare Pizza as a vegatable.

And to think people criticize Obama for not being able to get any shit done, when they (republicans) are most likely the ones who keep him from being able to get anything passed in the first place... lol The opposing party seems to be focusing much more on being the opposite of Obama in terms of policies and such than they are on actually fixing/improving the economy itself..

That's sad.

Welcome to politics.

Yeah, US politics has evolved into "us vs. them" instead of combined efforts of differing ideals. What happens now is someone's voted president, people hate him for anything and everything and vilify his party, two years later Congress is voted in as the opposite party, and then the two sides prevent each other from actually doing anything useful.

It's that fallacy of politics that's mostly keeping the economy from getting any better, not that I expected republicans and democrats to be able to work together well enough for the country to improve again anyway (at least not anytime soon).

Also, what GK said.

Well, a big problem with the economy is that the Republicans flat-out refuse to allow tax increases of any kind (because that makes it possible to increase taxes on them, the rich) when taxes need to be increased to allow economic growth.

Need to go back to the old days with Kings and stuff.

I'll do it.

Even worse.

Democracy is basically the worst political system, except for the other ones we've tried.

Lol.

How many kings can you remember off the top of your head who were benevolent?

Well, off the top of my head, William of Orange. There are others I'm sure but he is the one I'm recalling. Though I think the term 'benevolent' is a bit...unsuited I guess for discussing things like this. 😛

I'd rule like Augustus.

Alfred the Great was a pretty decent king.

But giving all that power to one man for life is just dangerous.

I actually think it's not a terribly bad idea...now, giving it to one man based on who his ****ing daddy was, that's a bad idea. That will get ya Caligulas ruling the kingdom.

Hey, we did that with Dubya.

The enjoyment for the finer things in life probably runs in the family.

And we probably would have done that with JFK junior.

I've come to realize, going a month without something makes you appreciate things more.

Indeed.

But he was the exception, rather than the rule. Which is part of my point. He's 'great' in that he's every noteworthy.

Fidel Castro was pretty good as far as dictators go BD

Especially if you completely disregard everything the US says about him.
