I thought pinkie pie was meant to be mildly retarded initially. Then I realized, she's simply insane. Like Harley Quinn. And thus, she is amazing.

Then the first episodes failed to prove me wrong.
Perhaps. They are not the best in the series.
PF get by on a rather shallow reason: Better music. But it also has a few nice themes that I genuinely like compared to MLP. Which is not to say MLP is bad, just not really something I could see myself liking over PF.
Naw man. Winter Wrap Up>>>
Again, have never seen anything to the contrary. For instance: I don't know why these ponies are willing to go so far for one another.
They're good peo- I mean ponies?
"You don't need a reason to help someone", as said by Zidane, the greatest of all Final Fantasy protagonists.
I don't know why they appeal to people when the ponies themselves aren't very interesting. You can predict every single action of every single pony in your sleep, with the *possible* exception of Rarity, who would probably be my favorite of the ponies. They aren't bad. But they also aren't interesting.
The ponies themselves are by far the most well-rounded children's cartoon characters I have seen in a very long time, and easily better than most characters from every other media outlet in that regard.
Granted, the first two episodes were fairly formulaic in execution, it was pretty easy to predict which pony would embody what.
And I don't know why they're friends.
What do you mean?
Though to be completely fair, I've just watched the first 2 episodes. I don't plan to watch more because it doesn't interest me but hey, I'm no expert.
Naw man, your taste is just questionable. :3

She was mine too. She just comes off as rather forced in the first 2 episodes. But she becomes awesome later.
The first 2 episodes just introduce you to the shows concept rather than the character driven episodes that come afterwards, which is where the characters become really endearing.

Same here actually. For a while, Pinkie Pie was the least interesting pony, only good for a laugh.
But later episodes endeared her towards me.

Damn it. I always hit that ****ing quote button.
Why you edit it out?
And ****, people need to stop citing Lesson Zero as the episode that is the first one they must watch, it isn't as good as people think it is. It's funny, yeah, but it also had lesser characterization, especially in Rarity's case, where she exists only for a gag.
Secret of my Excess or Dragonshy are good suggestions though.
The Cutie Mark Chronicles is a favorite of mine as well.
Originally posted by General KalieroSuited for Success and Sonic Rainboom are warm and fuzzy to me.
Lesson Zero is only good in context of the rest of the series. As tempting as the wacky hijinks are, it's not for introducing people to the series.Dragonshy is good, as is Secret of my Excess. I'd recommend Sonic Rainboom and/or Suited for Success.
Party of One and Swarm of the Century are also acceptable.
