Eddard Stark is much more badass in the show than in the book.

In the book, his only contribution to the fight against the Lannister men led by Jaime Lannister was falling off his horse and breaking his leg. In the show, he kills a good few of them, and then proceeds to duel Jaime Lannister to a standstill, until he was speared in the back of the leg by a punk *****.
