Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with it. I lucked out a lot, though; I stopped into Microcenter yesterday just to see if I could get a decent case for cheaper than I was finding online and wound up buying the case, power supply, RAM, and cooler for the CPU for a little over $100. Which was about half of what I had been originally planning on spending on those parts. Sales rock.

Yes, 1200$ for the sort of system you're building is WAY overpriced. You certainly did the smart thing by building it yourself. I'm curious though, where did you see a system like that for over 1k? Alienware?

I'm currently looking at a pre-built system that's quite similar to the one you're building. It costs about 600$. Even Alienware has systems with dedicated GPUs that go for significantly less than 1k. Unless we're talking about a system that comes with Windows, a monitor, and some other peripherals?
I've never seen a pre-built computer that doesn't come with the OS already pre-loaded on it...
Fiddling around on HP's website, I can customize a build on there to have approximately the same specs as my computer, and it's around a grand. Even with Alienware the closest to my specs is over a thousand dollars...before things like the monitor and peripherals.

Pre-built PCs without an OS are common.
Hewlett-Packard? I don't think that's the best place to look for a gaming computer. It's a bit unfortunate that I don't know of too many places to buy a PC in the US(I really only know Newegg and Alienware and I know that Alienware overprices quite a bit). http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x51/fs these are kinda pricey, but below 1k.
The place I bought from sells pre-built without an OS for pretty solid prices considering that electronics over here tend to be overpriced.
Once again Yahtzee just skims over an entire subject and makes a half assed effort to analyze things just like what he did with the Warhammer and its fans. I didn't even play the game(nor have the desire to buy it because rather play a much supererior game , MP3) but understand why the fans hate it. The only thing I can agree on is Shepard's character being dry and clitched skywalker must save the galaxy type.

Ibuypower is seriously horrible, I wouldn't use them as an example of anything. I've also heard some bad things about AMD's Bulldozer processors.

I have no idea about the brand, but I personally don't worry about them too much. I know that some are better than others, but some people give brands too much attention.
Anyway, it turns out you can get a decent PC for way under 1k. I just wish they wouldn't tack on the OS. It needlessly bumps up the price.
About Bulldozers: yea, they turned out to be a disappointment compared to the Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs. They aren't bad though.
