ENOUGH, HERETICS.

Holy Shit this is the dumbest thing I've seen a Bioware employee say ever.

**** you David Gaider. Why even give us the option to make choices if you're going to overrule us. You big smelly arsehole.

If he'd just have said that she managed to heal herself or that she was miraculously brought back by Andraste that would be fine. But he's such a dick about it. Bioware is fvcking terrible at talking to their fans.

...holy crap that guy is an insufferable *******.

The point of a game is to engage the player and make them involved in your creation. If you don't care about player involvement, then make movies.

Its not new that Bioware sucks ass in the their PR department. Stanely Ding Dong Bannu Woo anyone?

The people posting were damn right about his attitude. That's no way for a professional to behave. No wonder everyone avoids the Bioware forums like the plague.

They did the same thing with Edwin in Baldurs Gate iirc. But at least there you can bring it up and he'll handwave it. And that was fine. As a powerful wizard I can accept that he could have survived somehow. You don't need to be a dick about it. I can understand that at the time it would have been harder to bring character deaths between sequels.

Some of that article is good, some is just kinda silly. Like the whole "Why are games so expensive now?" part. Games have always been expensive. Brand new games 20 years ago often ran in the $40-70 range, this is nothing new.

Also the 'point' about games being pricier than movies...yeah, the average new release game is going to be 2-3 times as much as a new release movie on blu-ray. However, movies are usually, what, two hours long? Most games are going to give you more than six hours of gameplay.

The biggest problem is that there's a handful of big publishers that dominate the industry, and they're interested solely in churning out games for money, and then blaming their devs when games fall short of sales expectations. If more would step back and let their dev teams work and not hold them to unattainable deadlines, then that would cut out a lot of issues within the industry.

Surely longer deadlines would mean more money spent on the project though. Meaning more of a return needed for a profit. It would mean better games, but is it cost effective?

Not necessarily, no, and giving a company more time to work until they feel the game is ready increases the chances that they will make a profit.

Shorter deadlines also produce inferior work, as corners are cut and problems shoved under the rug or only tenuously patched instead of properly fixed. At the end of the pipeline when reviewers get their hands on it, that can kill a game's sales, and thus, profit.

Oh no sure, I agree with you on that. I'm just wondering if it makes sense from a purely risk vs reward standpoint to risk pumping more money into a title in order to polish it in the hopes that it'll be a better game and sell more copies. Something that publishers don't have any control over. If the figures from the article are accurate then they already need to sell millions of copies in order to break even. Will the extra polish sell enough copies to make up for the increased cost (cuz I don't see how paying people to keep developing a game without profit for longer wouldn't increase cost)?

So while I agree with you, I can see why from a business angle that might not be the best thing to do, at least short term.

I did not think this was true. I thought the reviews did not really matter to most people except for the smart-hardcore types like most of the posters on this portion of the forum.

For example, Just Dance did poorly in reviews (quite bad, actually). But sales were big.

That's just one example off the top of my head. I am sure there are tons more.

David Gaider was totally justified.

"BAWH LELIANA DIED AND SHE SHOWED UP WHAT GIVES"
"No no you only think she died, it will be explained, but not here on a forum."
"NO TELL ME NOW."
"😬"

Watching the NC Digimon movie review.

JesuOtaku is right, **** the 02 epilogue.

So I bought a router a few weeks ago to complement my shiny new 20mbs comcast connection.

When connected to the router wirelessly, I was getting a measly .7mbs download speed. 🙁

Was ****ing around in the router settings a few minutes ago, decided to, on a whim, change the channel setting from mixed to wireless G only.

Am now getting 19mbs download speeds.

lulz.

My days of silently beating off in the living room after everyone else has gone to sleep because my laptop can't stream porn without a wired connection are over.

My 100Mb/s optical fiber streams porn at mind-blowing(and not just mind-blowing, if you know what I mean) speeds.

Just Dance is also something that appeals hugely to the casual gamer crowd - the people who don't pay any attention to reviews at all.

Most people who follow games check out reviews on ones they're interested. And yes, poor reviews have killed many a game, especially when the reviews come out before the game does. Examples I can think of for that are Aliens vs. Predator (I remember that one pretty well because I was working the day the reviews came out for it and we had tons of people coming in to cancel their copy), Alpha Protocol, X-Men Destiny...

Games that all looked good and had decent marketing, but were not very good and had their sales killed by poor review scores.

There's a current trend, illustrated very well by Enslaved and Asura's Wrath, of high-quality, competently-made games bombing because the early reviews point out how short and not worth $60 they are. Reviews will very much cripple a game targeted to "serious" gamers.

The casual gaming market is an entirely different animal.

Not necessarily, look at Operation Raccoon City. Poor to mediocre reviews, sold over 2 million.

I wouldn't be surprised if the franchise logo is what saved that game.

Resident Evil is a pretty trusted franchise, despite Capcom's shenanigans.

Like, if Bioware released a game and it got a 55% rating on metacritic, I doubt it would bomb on that merit.
