Woohoo, official off-topic thread!

Started by Temp: VDJS3,949 pages

Found the storyline thread, and wanted to see how many people referred to mgs. saw not too many people did, so i decided to vent about the series in the ebst series thread. noticed you mentioned tales on the third page, lol, and i found it funny as I've played the tales games before and i thought they were kidna weak storywise, no offence lol. I guess you were a "fanboy" as you mentioend that series beyond all else.

No, you followed me here to troll me as I recall.

(do I even need to report?)

Socktroll doubletap activate!

*pewpew*

So, I think MGS sucks (and played the first when it first came out...game took like six hours to beat, highly unimpressive, though fooling guards with the box and setting C4 traps on stairwells was funny) and I don't like the Tales games?

What now?

Oh wait I like Guild Wars 2 and don't buy into his bullshit claims about being buddy buddy with non-existent devs, I guess he'll attack me on that with his next sock 😛

Have any of you guys over the years become somewhat graphic whores?? Remembering all the good times I had with MGS 1, it was my second PS1 game with FFVII being my first and I remember looking at the graphics going: "F*ck yeah....." The sort of euphoric pleasure you get when you just gotta rub some mayo or nacho cheese on your exposed belly JUST CUZ YOU CAN, shit! I look back at those games now and I know I think they're fun, I know I enjoyed them, but next-gen graphics pampered my ass to the point where I can't really stand them and get put off by them. Like an overused hooker, but with feelings.

I think the only old games I can still bust out and play on a daily basis are my 2D fighters, I love those.

Honestly, not really.

Graphics are a plus for me but it's not something where I really care a huge amount.

Actually, I picked up Devil May Cry HD Collection and have been playing the first DMC.

The graphics and old blocky polys are fine. It's the damn loose controls that bug me.

^ That.

I've played and enjoyed the first 2 Fallout games, first 2 Deus Ex games, Morrowind and Soulstorm and they all look like ass on sliced bread. I don't care about graphics at all really.

The only game that I just couldn't get past the age was Silent Hill 2. Supposedly an amazing game, but it plays like shit.

Damn, I envy that, I wish I could replay my older games without getting bored and easily distracted. Can't find my old Zone of Enders copies but when the HD ports come out, I'll be gladly getting those again.

That turns me off them as well. Some of the older Twisted Metal games suffer heavily from this to me

These are some of the words and phrases that speakers through the years have ruled "unparliamentary" in the Parliament of Canada, the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and the Legislative Assembly of Québec:

parliamentary pugilist (1875)
a bag of wind (1878)
inspired by forty-rod whiskey (1881)[3]
coming into the world by accident (1886)
blatherskite (1890)
the political sewer pipe from Carleton County (1917)
lacking in intelligence (1934)
a dim-witted saboteur (1956)
liar (consistently from 1959 to the present)
a trained seal (1961)
evil genius (1962)
Canadian Mussolini (1964)
pompous ass (1967)
fuddle duddle (1971)—probably the most famous example in Canada
pig (1977)
jerk (1980)
sleaze bag (1984)
racist (1986)
scuzzball (1988)
girouette (French for "weathervane", Québec 2007)
bully (2011)
a piece of shit (Justin Trudeau to environmental minister, Question period 2011)

'Dim-witted saboteur.' Lolwut?

Why do I get the feeling all the newbies we've been getting lately are all the same person?

Maybe it's just multiple people with the same thought process.

Oh and Deadman Wonderland's dub is friggin hilarious. I love it 😄

How is it my problem when the game does a good job of overly complicating things? Granted, story-wise MGS (PS1) and MGS 4 had the best in-game events, but MGS 3 sucked balls. I'm not the only one who thought this. It gets stupid with the whole idea of, again, overly complicating things so that people who do think they get it I guess feel really good about themselves cuz they prolly think they're smart. Maybe I just like my games alittle more streamlined and to the point, not to where they become a cliche, cuz there aren't any of those in MGS already, heh. If they were to can the cloning crap and dealt with just espionage and conspiracies, it'd be a better game imo, but we got what we got. Doing stealth kills and choking mo'fos and taking out big ass mechs is what keeps me coming back.

I feel the same way for Kingdom Hearts, I love the gameplay, summons and boss battle, but f*ck it's storyline.

Are you... Sure you are referring to MGS3?

MGS3 had one of the more streamlined and simple stories, pretty straight-forward really.

Certainly much less convoluted than Hideo Kojima's ragefest that was MGS2.

Didn't MGS4 make it so that Liquid taking over Ocelot through his transplanted arm was really just Ocelot hallucinating the entire thing because he was insane?

...god, I just typed that. This story is so stupid.

No, he effectively hypnotised himself into taking on Liquid's persona.

Anyone who is under the impression that MGS as a game or as a story is sub-par, if only by game standards, is deluding themself.

I mean, I think the story is pretty good, and I am far smarter than all of you.

No,, iirc, Ocelot was possessed, but just did the logical thing and chop the arm off at some point after MGS2, replaced it with a cybernetic one, and hypnotized himself.

Or something.

Oh shit, yeah, you're right. Meant MGS2, the one with Raiden. MGS3 was the one prequel one with Big Boss.

YouTube video

NOOO! Not Rainbow Dash ;_;

Good video overall though.

"I could criticise the writing style endlessly but the problems with Arthas: Rise of the Lich King are even more substantial. Again, I understand that writing the story of a life of a character who was probably made up as they went along is probably quite a challenge but I don’t think it alters the fact that the one event constantly cited as the most traumatic and character-defining of Arthas’s entire life is… Actually let’s do a quiz. Is it:

a) That time he murdered his father?
b) That time he killed an entire town of innocent people because they’d been infected with the undead plague?
c) That time he burned the boats of his own army to force them to keep fighting for him?
d) That time the guy he was staying with offered him a serving girl to rape?
e) That time he was picking up Frostmourne and it directly caused the death his mentor and oldest friend?
f) That time he killed Sylvanas Windrunner, turned her into a banshee and rape/tortured her for kicks?
g)The death of his horse.

What the hell? He even has recurring nightmares about it.

(by the way, it’s option g)"

What the shit? That can't possibly be right.

From what I hear it is.

It's all starting to make sense. He turned down a hot serving girl for sex, and opted to spend his time in the barn "grooming" his horse, and said horse's death traumatised him, in a similar fashion as losing a lover would...

He ****ed his horse, I guess is my point.

Your avatar is suddenly really appropriate. And pretty creepy.
