My ideas on how Fanboy should be used remain, regardless of the actual definition. Its only likely people who follow the actions I stated, are real fanboys, otherwise you could just be someone who likes the character, a real fanboy, someone with a true obsession with the character would not even bother trying to debate it, they would simply claim it the winner.

Why? it makes perfect sense, why would someone who is so obsessed with a character and who believes they would win over all others even care about debating it with another person? if they have already decided immediately the winner why would they be interested in structuring any kind of debate or apparently from their point of view "wasting time" when they believe their character is "obviously" the winner.

Wrong.
In my opinion, fanboys could indeed be eager to debate. Someone who is so into a character that they've learned every tiny piece of relevant information? Of course they're going to want to show off their knowledge. The very act of debating can reveal a fanboy, simply by showing how much they actually know.
Damn right! My heart is an awesome place 😎
Burning Thought, what you're describing is what I call "idiotic fanboy" and not the actual definition of "fanboy". A fanboy isn't necessarily stupid, just overly devoted to their character. To question their knowledge and the character they devote their time to, I imagine is virtually to insult the actual fanboy himself in his eyes. They won't back down, because they are right and you are wrong. You can't know more about their character than they do, and they know their character will win.
Ime not talking about actual defintion, that obvioulsy is not used in this forum, the real defintion is irrelvent. The "idotic fanboy" that you describe is the one ime refering to, and the one this forum seems to use solely.

I am, of course, referring to those individuals who seek out knowledge about a character they enjoy. A fanboy/girl's obsession with a character goes beyond simply playing a game. The differential threshold is between "what they need to know" and "what they want to know."

Obviously this forum does not solely use the "idiotic fanboy" definition you are implying.

Therefore, our defining of the term is hardly irrelevant, merely inconvenient to you.

So if someone wants to know something more than shown in a game, you think their a fanboy? no....
ofcourse its irrelevent, its not used, so how can it be relevant.....the practical application of the term is used wrongly on the forum, more of an insult than what it is.

Exactley, its a redundant term because by its true defintion it applies to almost everyone one the forum as Q'Anilia has pointed out, certainly the people who would use it for me, when I doubt a real fanboy would even try to bother to debate or even care about the thoughts of someone on their character, unless their young and boisterous.

"Obsession" quite clearly shows that the individual in question is more concerned with a specific character than is considered normal. For instance, I'm rather openly a Bowser fanboy. I don't consider him as simply the villain of the Mario series, I see him as an individual character with his own motivations and ways of doing things.
Evidently, from Cowgirl and myself, you are the only one here for whom the textbook definition is irrelevant. Perhaps the forum isn't using it as an insult so much as you're perceiving it as one?

Not really, you were quite precise...I think you meant to add more than you actually did.
I would agree to a degree that they are more concerned, but not in your example, ime sure many see him as an individual character..thats obvious, I wouldnt call someone a fanboy just because they notice something others do not, or bring up a characters reactions. You would probably just be a "fan" in my eyes.
Not really evidently, Cowgirl and yourself dont actually activaly debate on the forum so you wouldnt know but more importantly I wouldnt want to assume that those that use it are fools or idiots, considering most on the forum match the true defintion, at least in your eyes, not in mine. Which means whoever is claiming "fanboy" is either a troll or a fool, trying to use it as a form of insult when it can very well be used for them.
Or they take things for obsession which are not, like you, wanting to know more about a character than a game shows, is by far and wide not a obsessive thing to do, nor is going deeper into a character.

He does that.
It's not so much the word he is opposing as the fact that he has fallen victim to it. Burning Thought is swift to try turn a tide in his favor, be it like in this case a particular term he occasionally feel targeted by, or other times where he receive an opportunity to bring out his perspective of a matter to have the matter itself fall in his favor.
Burning Thought take things personal. It's just who he is (Not saying that's a bad thing. Could be frustrating for oneself though). A lot of the times he is called a fanboy, is because people find his way of debating frustrating and unreasonable. I'm not saying it is (or isn't), but as a consequence he is often defined as a fanboy. A discussion like this is his way to even the scale for all the times he has been called it. His rise from ashes.
By declaring the term "idiotic fanboy" as the global usage on this forum, the accusations are averted from him, because he doesn't fall into that category.
A natural reaction really. If no one else does, you need to look out for yourself.
Well obvioulsy they are using it as a derrogatory term, if they do not like the way I am debating with them, their using the term fanboy wrongly and as an insult, which was my main argument against.
The only time anyone uses it from my large amount of experiance debating in this forum against me or anyone else is when its an insult. I think its about time I pointed out this nonsense and how redundant it is. Smashing peoples arguments does not account for fanboyism.
No, using illogical debates and fallacies in your arguments to try to prove your character superior makes you a fanboy.
A fanboy is not simply someone who repeatedly claims their character wins...Who does that? Fanboys usually do debate their character, although they do not factor being reasonable or being logical into their arguments. They are driven by bias and love for their character, refusing to believe that they can lose. The extent of fanboyism varies however, casual fanboys will still argue against the odds but apply some logic and reason into their arguments and concede when defeat is inevitable, but then there are fanboys like Phenomenol(DBZ fanboy) for example who will argue against all odds after having their argument smashed to pieces no matter the opposition. Those are the two extremes however, and obviously most fall in the middle at varying extents. THAT is the forum definition of a fanboy.
BT is only arguing against this because he is called a fanboy so often and absolutely refuses to accept it. He believes only he is correct in his assessment of himself and that everyone else is wrong, that he is simply far more intelligent and better than everyone else despite what many people(most) are saying. Which reminds me of a recent South Park episode. The theme of the episode was that truly egotistical individuals would do anything they can to protect their egos and actually convince themselves of their own superiority over others. BT does this quite often, he truly believes that he is right and everyone who criticizes him is wrong.
