i don't find myself agreeing all that often with you q, but in this case i agree. i have that series and wondered if this is what you were referring to. but all he was doing was studying. there is nothing there at all to lead me to believe he powered himself up from the orb at all. beyond that, retrieving the 'bauble' (clearly even he thought it was somewhat insignificant) was only secondary to him. setting his rep straight seemed the larger goal.
i remain unconvinced he was powered up at all by the orb.

Not my interpretation, not my frigging scan.

You know how everyone says that the Tyrant fight wasn't under his own power... well they were right... but, right after the fight, he put his power up to what it was in the Tyrant fight (it sure as hell seems like he is doing it).
So, now, the Tyrant fight is completely relevent to any debate.
(I just found this baby)

Plus, he has studied the orb before he got it, and knew what it was.
What could he possibly be studying?
I could say more, but I just thought of something.
That orb possessed Morg's power. Morg's power holds the Power Cosmic.
Thanos later in his career had the ability to activate the Power Cosmic...
Coincidence?
Originally posted by Tyrantit doesnt state thats what he was doing. so this is up for interpretation. this was to me his trophy from the conflict with tyrant. he took it from tyrant and was studying it. we dont know what he did with it.

Ok here's the way I see it. IF Thanos's power was actually increased by the Orb during his fight with Tyrant, then it's a logical assumption that he used the orb to power himself up permanently since he ended up with it when the dust cleared and you saw him doing SOMETHING with it at the end of the issue. The only way it would make sense for him to do otherwise, is if it wasn't really all that much of a powerup in the first place. Either way, the Tyrant fight becomes a valid feat as a gauge for Thanos's power.
Originally posted by darthgooberit was quite impressive whether we agree or diasgree about the orb or not/ it showd how badass thanos can be for challenging tyrant by himself just for the sheer thrill of it. 💃

Originally posted by darthgooberindeed. with anything in comics that is open for interpretation you will a;ways have different opinions on what actually is taken place. thats why its good when the writer states it in black and white. for us debators anyways. 🙂
Truth be told, the only reason I promote the power up theory is because it's easier for many to accept than the alternative. My only concern is that it IS considered valid, I don't really care how/why people accept it.

he activated the power cosmic? where?
from that scan all he was doing was studying it. i have no problem with you speculating that he used it to somehow power himself up. the problem i have is when people state it as a fact. it clearly is anything but, based on that scan. he has also throughout his career been a knowledge seeker. he could simply have been studying the orb for a way to safeguard his OWN energies from being stolen by tyrant at some point. or perhaps looking for a way to turn the process around on him, looking for any weakness he could discern as a continengy in the event tyrant came for revenge or they met another time.
all equally valid speculation, all equally unsubstantiated on panel.

meh, firing a blast through the orb and having it magnify his energies and actually taking its power and integrating it into himself are 2 different things entirely.
imo, the effect of the orb was clear in the battle -- before he used it, he was getting the crap kicked out of him. there is a scene of him desperately reaching for it, and suddenly he gets it and the fight is considerably more even. likewise, if thanos channeled a blast through thor's hammer, i'd wager my house it would be a MASSIVE blast, far greater than thanos could do alone. ironman HAS done that, and his replusors were increased exponentially. that of course does NOT mean thanos could take the energy from thor's hammer and suddenly power himself up permanently.
and tyrant>odin.
imo, the orb DID make a significant difference in the fight, but i see no reason at all to suppose he then took it and was able to somehow permanently power himself up with its energies.
Originally posted by leonidasi agree with u on this as well. i would not try to force my interpretation of this event as fact. i find it funny when people try to force their opinions down ur thorat as fact about an event like this one.

Originally posted by darthgooberits a fair assumption but his point was that it isnt fact. its an opinion.
But if you look at it as a powerup device, then it doesn't really make sense for Thanos NOT to upgrade himself with it. Thanos isn't stupid, it would be out of character for him to aquire something like that and then just toss it in the closet when he's done studying it. Thanos pretty much CONTINUOUSLY seeks out ways to increase his power, so having acquired one I think it's safe to say that he did just that. Think about it, if on the last page of a comic we see a hungry Galactus on a far off planet that will sustain his hunger at the end of an issue and see him starting to activate the machinery on his ship, isn't it a fairly safe assumption to say that he ate/absorbed the energy from the planet in question?
