X-Men: Utopia

I can just imagine her wandering around cryptic speaking the enemy into submission...

The more Nezhno uses his powers the closer he gets to dying though... I wonder if it's another attempt to drag X-book readers over to Black Panther to boost its sales (now at their lowest ever I believe.)

God I hope that damned baby isn't Jean Grey.

I think Yost and Craig where supposed to do a Black Panther, Storm, Nezhno story in New X-Men but the series was cancelled. I remember Hudlin saying he'll see what he can do once he found out what Nezhno was. Makes sense since that book doesn't have many side characters apart from the guest appearances of the Fantastic Four and T'challa's Sister?
And it's most probably a sale thing as well.
If he turns out to be a prince or closely related to T'challa I'm going to right an angry letter.

Then he's dead to me 😠

Young X-Men.
This looks terrible and since they've removed the school element it doesn't sound to appealing either.

i don't look so silly now do i? no, pr wasnt mad when he suggested that...

Messiah complex for me: solid all round, the strongest book being either x-men or x-factor imo, the weakest being new x-men (i dont think kyle/yost have a proper handle on the senior characters, but thats just me).

sinister was built up to be a big bad, and then sort of went out with a whimper... saddening, a final showdown against sinister would have been the business imo...

one thing bugged me though (you can guess what it is ermm)

cyclops... messiah complex was touted as having him as a central character, and i was psyched, but the impression im getting (from the xforce debacle and kyle/yost's hiccup or two) is basically that the writers didnt know how to write cyclops as a central character properly, so they thought they'd make him a little more hardcore to appeal to the larger fan base...

whedon on his own was able to write cyclops as coming out his shell to an extent, yet still being scott summers and maintaining his core beliefs...

the formation of x-force, to me, seems like a large shift in his beliefs as far as things go... had wolverine set up x-force, that would have been understandable... but this is CYCLOPS. he's supposed to be the responsible one, the one setting a standard for others to follow ethically... creating a black ops team thats going to kill a whole lot of people is NOT imo setting a good example...

x-men 207 xavier said scott was speaking for mutantkind... he should do it like cyclops then, not a guy who preaches peace and practices murder when peoples backs are turned...

and the line-up of x-force is some of the most retarded tactical thinking ever...

whats wrong with the x-force?

Rockslide and Dust are the only field ready kids on that team.

And Rockslide doesn't work as well with Anole, you need the straight man (figuratively speaking) for the funny guy to bounce off of. I'm sure there was some innuendo in there somewhere.

While I love Blindfold and her bizarre cryptic dialogue, I still have no idea how she's ready for the field. While I'm all for her no longer dressing like Jesus, I don't get where the ninja angle, that seems to be where they're taking her, came from

I don't particularly care about Wolfcub, and if Guggenheim's approach is to try and turn him into the new Wolverine, then I don't see myself particularly caring about him in future either.

While Guggenheim's new character Ink seems like a crappy deus ex machina. And his other new character is a complete unknown.

On top of all that unless Cyclops is going to personally lead them, none of the characters have shown sufficient leadership abilities to take a team into the field. And if there isn't a school element then we're stuck with reading about Wolfcub and Ink... without a vibrant background cast... which doesn't particularly appeal.

Which leaves me wondering what's happening to them:
Prodigy
Elixir

Surge
Hellion
Mercury

Anole
Pixie
Gentle
Stepford Cuckoos
Indra
Loa

I can see the bolded characters graduating to the big leagues (and Pixie maybe because she has some weird following which I don't understand) and the italicized characters remaining in the background in the main books. But then what of the rest, do they get forfeited for some crappy tattooed character... ermm

Also they stopped calling themselves the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants ages ago... at least during the Mystique run BKV passed it off as being irony.

Oh and before I forget... the costumes look horrible on them for some reason. ermm

I'd hit it.................... dodgy

So I've read some more interviews, done some more ruminating, and am ready to gripe more about liking the prospective Young X-Men even less. I know it's probably too early to judge, but screw it I'm judging anyway.

1) The team line-up is frankly lacking that certain je ne sais quoi. It's missing something, regardless of how diverse Guggenheim wanted to makes his team.
Compare:

Putting aside the fact that I think Skottie Young just draws better renditions of them than Dodsonor Paquette, the new team just seems for lack of a better word "uninteresting." It may not be the final team, but as it stands it's not particularly appealing.

And as mentioned Rockslide works best with someone like Anole. While Dust worked because there was such a contrast between her and the other girls, but she's grown and changed over her time with them. New X-Men #46 illustrates these character dynamics well.

2) Characters are all but being retconned to fit the new mold.
Blindfold - Why is she being made into a sexpot. I mean sure she doesn't have to dress like a bag-lady, but why would she suddenly be prancing around with her midriff showing. Next she'll be speaking in coherent sentences and making out with Dust.
Wolfcub - Is going to be the next Wolverine? Really? The kid with no field experience? The kid who seems pretty gentle? The kid, period. He's not an adult, he's not X-23 who hasn't had a childhood. Is going to become a berserker raging who can put aside sentiment and kill without mercy?

3) The premise is silly, Scott is sending a bunch of kids to kill the Brotherhood, which apparently consists of Donald Pierce thus far (who isn't even a mutant.) What was the point of X-Force then?

4) I realised why the costumes look horrible on them, it's because the costumes are horrible. At first I thought they were just wearing the costumes from New X-Men but they aren't. Someone's thrown a bucket of yellow on them.

5) "Someone will die!!!11!!!1" - I can't be the only one sick of the whole someone will die thing to try and entice people into reading on.

the art for young x-men looks horrible. just poor quality all around. and greymalkin [which i always thought was spelled graymalkin, and i still believe i'm right,] just seems like a disappointment waiting to happen. we've had cerebro and the danger room both become sentient, humanoid constructs in the last ten or so years. if their street turns into a person, or the whole school compacts into a humanoid body, i'm going to shit bricks. and really, given that the name apparently comes from the street and not the cable-related technology/ship/what-have-you, that's the first and only option coming to mind.

ugh.

I bet the Babu turns out to be Nate Grey,in the most retarded plot-twist ever.

ugh.

Maybe he has the ability to turn into an old female cat. Or alternatively a cranky old woman.

"Latino" character. Check.
Muslim character. Check.
Disabled character. Check.
Transexual character. Check.

Go Team Diversity!

Ironic considering the cast of New X-Men was already about as diverse as it gets. And yeah, it's spelled with an "a."

See that's the thing. I could have seen Blindfold wearing granny clothes and using a crossbow like how Destiny used to. I think they want to turn her into a Daredevil type character. If she ends up a sexbot like Psylocke then it'll be a total waste of the character.

I thought Santo was Italian American?

The art sucks and that whole scene where Dust says she doesn't kill goes out the window.

I'm starting to think that some of the New X-Men(Hellion etc) join the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

I also have a feeling that Emma is going to be leaving the X-Men in Ellis's Astonishing X-Men after that whole I'll give you Charles Xavier in exhange for your help thing.

If Hellion joins the brotherhood, then X-23 will end up killing him with tears in her eyes and all that unoriginal shit we all hate. Though I could definitely see Hellion working as a bad guy, they've been slowly turning him into a fully fledged X-man. He's obviously against killing off your opponents.

I'd still give the "Team Diversity" title to the Runaways.

I for one didnt read New X-men on a reglar basis but I was starting to like them. Specially my girl Pixie(related to Blink?). I feel that they are the next generation of X-men and as such need to be trained more. A new lineup wasnt necessary but I guess when theres a new status quo, 2 things need to happen, 1) A new line up and 2)someone must die. I guess Ill pas on "Young" X-men.

The snag I see with that, however, is that no matter how "badass" or "hardcore" Scott has become I still can't see him sending off a bunch of kids to kill former students of the Institute whom he as recently as New X-Men #43 referred to as among the last generation of X-Men. Nor any Brotherhood consisting of former New Mutants - which seems to be the other theory floating around.

In fact it seems like a pretty retarded move on Scott's part to want to kill any remaining mutants, regardless of their allegiances, considering how few of their species remains. (Yes, in MC all bets were off and anyone (Marauders, Acolytes) in the way was fair game, but the catalyst of the baby is gone.)

Also erratum: Above I said 46 when I meant 43.
