Indeed. The kind of epic ownage guarantees to a place in the annals of the history of humanity... one of those things that are passed on in legend through the ages.

Thats gotta be impossible to live down.

Like nuke dropping, to return to topic.

I think its when they all seemed sometime ago start saying "...Could care less" when obviously meaning to say "...Couldn't care less."

Its a hideous thing to almost nationally have wrong, as it infers the completely opposite meaning that the speaker intends.
Such a simple mistake can be avoided by thinking about what you say or type.

But yeah, after that, the bombings were probably were right up there with that. 😖hifty:

There was a whole thread about that a while back.

Started out good, but then caused contraversy with the mods.

Ah. I see. Nice to know I wasnt just imagining the trend.

I feared it was early senility setting in, on my part.... 😛

Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the greatest error ever by the Americans!!!

Without a doubt, look how well it turned out for the Japanese in the end.

The Japanese didn't surrender, and at the point where we were asking them for such, they weren't even a factor anymore.

...could have packed up, went home and ignored them at that point, and it wouldn't have mattered.

God, it's not at all that simple.

It is when you view world wars as little more than a board game. In hindsight, the allies shouldn't have gone into Germany either, as the Germans had retreated back into their borders to defend the homeland, should have just given them the finger at the French/German border and said "ha, we won because you lost, now don't try that ever again", all nice and special-like.

P.S. I sank your battleship.

I like sarcasm.

But I really could care less... I'm sure there are things I care less about... wait... I'm thinking...

lulz

Worth it? No.

Hilarious? You bet.

Were they worth it. hmm...

Monetary costs of the Manhattan project ~20 billion
Estimated cost per bomb ~5 billion

hiroshima and nagasaki were 2 bombs so about 10 billion.

So what did we get for our 10 billion? The end of the war without the necessity of invading Japan. So was it worth it? I'm sure the men who were spared something akin to normandy would say it was.

$30 billion . . .
