The Next Pokemon Game

New event pokemon.

Hoopa and Valcanion are quite cool.

Need some moveset assistance again. This time for Weavile. My questions are:

1. Should I get Embargo?
2. Should I lose Shadow Claw?
3. Best STAB; Punishment, Night Slash, or Payback?

Weavile works best as a physical attacker, ideal for trapping, revenge killing, and in a pinch, even sweeping late game.

You'll want physical moves, it doesn't have the bulk to support much status or trick play, but it's speed and attack stats are respectable.

Ice Shard is a great priority move, Shadow Claw is eh, since you have Night Slash for most of the same coverage and it gets STAB.

2. Should I lose Shadow Claw?
3. Best STAB; Punishment, Night Slash, or Payback?

What's its ability?

1. Embargo is of limited use. Anything with an offensive item you might want to get rid of probably has enough power to hurt Weavile pretty badly anyway. Taking away leftovers is similarly limited since most users are already pretty bulky and you'd be better off attacking or switching.

2. Ghost has a lot of the same coverage as Dark, so I don't know if I'd keep it, personally. You can keep in mind that Fairy resists Dark now, but not Ghost. Otherwise they are nearly the same, only Weavile doesn't get STAB.

3. Night Slash.

Punishment is risky because you'd rather not let the opponent set up in the first place and if they do they might become faster than you.

Do not use Payback. Weavile is very fast, but it's also fragile. More often than not, you will be going first unless the opponent has boosted speed, so it won't get boosted. Then, if they DO hit Weavile first, you're likely to be KO'd or hurt badly. Weavile does not have the bulk to consistently take hits like that.

I actually don't have Night Slash, but instead, Punishment. I'm just wondering if I should replace it though.

I considered Payback given the already high attack stat and coverage in case she so happened to get outsped. Not likely, but it would be for good measure. Essentially a "you go first, I'll f**king drop you" approach.

The only purpose Shadow Claw was meant to serve was hurting dual-type Psychics with reduced Dark weaknesses, such as Medicham and Gardevoir. Now that I say that aloud, I'll probably lose it.

Still a Sneasel, BTW.

Got it. Though the thinking behind Embargo was preventing mega evolutions.

According to Bulbapedia, mega evolution can't be stopped by Embargo, Trick, Thief, or any of that stuff.

I haven't tested this personally, though.

I guess that answers THAT question.

Just a pure attack-based move set then?

Yeah, if freakin Mega Evolutions could be prevented by something like Embargo or Thief, think I would've found out about that quite awhile ago. As it is though megavolving has that 'speed priority' and all that, so can't be stopped even by opponents that are faster.

Disappointed when I found out for the first time last night that multi-team battling with friends on the Maison doesn't work over wi-fi; only locally if you have two 3DSes together. Giggity giggity gay.

Well I guess we could still do some multi-team sometime if you want Scream, though we'd need to decide what other two people to battle against, unless it's random passerbys, though they rarely accept such challenges for me. As for 1 on 1 battling any of you good trainers, still don't feel like I'm quite ready for that yet. Low self-esteem as a trainer due to previous experience/losses I guess, and I've still been experimenting with different teams of three (having at least one mega) in the Battle Institute, Mason, and such.

Surprisingly, got a higher rank on the Institute with Mega Alakazam than I have with any of my other megas thus far.

Eh, you'd be surprised... Back during gen 3 or 4 (forgot which gen), I once tried shit like using earthquake on a Gengar. That and I'm not the best at predicting when a good human opponent is gonna switch out/what they're gonna switch to.

Used to think I was the shit until things like the Smogon community knocked me off my highhorse, and knocked me rightfully so. Guess it's a folly I still haven't fully healed from.

Eh, most of the battling I do is friendly for fun shit. 😛 I make teams more to do things I like than to win, though winning is nice.

That said, I like to play like an annoying dickhead who runs trickroom power trick shuckle, tricks choice bands onto your walls and stalls all day.

So there is that. Still, I'd like to do friendlies some time.

Heh. Well as long as you don't do things like Double Team + Baton Pass that's fine by me. Srsly, things like Double Team depending on how they're used makes battling someone no fun at all, if your attacks are just gonna miss their target all day.

Aside from that that's good to hear. I like your mindset; pretty fresh compared to like the arrogant half of the competitive Pokemon 'base I surrounded myself with most of the time, where winning was everything.

That said, sure. Guess I'd be more up to battling you sometime then.

Woot. Also, so glad that evasion boosting moves like double team and minimize are banned competitively, haermm

Everyone thinks Florges is Grass type and it's so great.

Heh heh, yeah, Double Team...

yeah... I could imagine...

Froslass: Snow Cloak + Double Team -> baton pass into -
Drifblim: Stockpile x3 -> baton pass into -
Spiritomb: Substitute -> Curse -> Dark Pulse + Pain Split + Curse, foreva

On another note, I really need to play the game. I've been very busy lately and will continue to be, how very sad.
