"Please forgive the intrusion, Avery Bailin, I
understand how much you desire to be left alone. However, it is
dire that Shiki accompany me now. In his current state he is a
danger everyone he comes in contact with, including himself."
Raising an arm, or more appropriately a sleeve, #1 motioned
for Shiki to approach. No hand extended past the edge of the fabric,
but there wasn't expected to be any hand there. #1 was, through
Black Angel's first attempt to create a super human, a collection
of data, living, breathing encryptions of memories and information.
It was, in itself, a part of the B.A. headquarters and in the same
instance, so much more. Every computer, every mechanism, every
being that had passed through the center's doors was known to
it, their secrets, their lives, their very genes where stored in its being.
Of the remaining experiments the B.A. possessed, #1 was the most
free-minded. It had once had a gender, a designation beyond #1, but
all that was forgotten. All of that, all of what would have made it human
had been stripped away through experimentation. But #1 was not
in the least bit a loyal experiment. It did what it wanted, when it wanted.
Depending upon the situation it could either help or hinder the B.A.'s work.
Drifting forwards again, #1 embraced Shiki before he could
utter a word, and just as quickly as the enigmatic experiment had
appeared, it took leave.
