Its either surfer knew gladiatorrs vulnerability via having prior knowledge of it or by somehow uncovering it there and then. We know that ON panel surfer never discovered gladiators weakness and we know that it isnt common knowledge. We could then make the assumption that surfer found out about it in some unknown far off adventure. Quite a stretch to say the least. however we know that surfer has been able to sense very specific details about people before including,race,personal abilities and even bodily conditions. Now gladiators vulnerability to energy is a specific detail very much in line with that which surfer has previously sensed on panel. And our only other option is to assume that surfer found out about it in some far off incident that no one knows about. One conclusion is clearly more plausible than the other.

Wait why is this still being debated? Can't current SS fly at an infinite speed? And isn't he able to create any form of energy he wants? He can also transmutate things, augment his strength to near limitless ability, and all sorts of other fancy stuff. How is superman going to beat him? By punching him?
