How many peoples throughout the history of the world were oppressed though? I'd gather quite a few, should the Jews of today hate the Egyptians of today for a few hundred years of slavery? Yes, blacks have been portrayed negatively in the past, to some extent, still are... Look how far society has progressed, we have a black Secretary of State, a mulatto with a good chance of becoming President; those are just two examples. Why can't you see the positives?
The United States Government was also ended slavery... do you think slavery came to an end by the slaves themselves?
Injustices that happened a long time ago? African American slavery "ended" not even 150 years ago. Not including 100 years of hell/segregation (1865-1965). And how do you compare Jewish slavery in Egypt occurring thousands of years ago to some thing that happened in "the land of the free" a mere -150 years ago?
The thing that gets to me is that this so called "Land of the Free/Home of the Brave" actually dealt in genocide and forced human bondage through cowardice. How hypocritical is that?
And you ask why should African Americans of today not hold today's Whites accountable for slavery? If you didn't notice, Whites today are now enjoying and benefiting from a history, a social system, and a gov't that profited, and was built on African American Slave sweat and blood.
I swear that in my minds eye, everytime i see a skyscraper or a federal/gov't or financial institution or banks, especially historical ones, you know, where mostly White people work, and all i see are enormous dark red waterfalls of African American slave blood roaring down from the roofs of these colossal towers. Makes me wanna blow 'em up, lol
And progress? What progress.. Things have gotten worse. A couple of Blacks getting sympathetically voted into office isn't progress. Why do you think we have Affirmative Action, or Civil Rights movement/laws, or Equal Employment opportunity laws, or the N.A.A.C.P.? Cause of American Racism. I'm sick of it. I don't want to get hired or be accepted cause i'm not White. If White people won't hire Blacks cause of a criminal past, even if he/she's fully reformed, then i don't admire, for sh*t, the U.S., and her gov't, for her criminal past, even if she's fully reformed.
It's like that. I'm so sick and tired to death of White people telling me to forget African American slavery ever happened, that racism doesn' exist in the U.S., That the K.K.K. is long gone, that if you've experienced racism, you're lying, that you're ranting, that if you want to talk about it you're a troll, or a racial slur like I've already been called here dozens of times by the Whites on here, just in this thread alone, that "I have Black friends", that White privilege doesn'tt exist, that the U.S. has come a long way, that progress has been made, BS, that using "cracker" is the same as, or worse than using the word "n*gg*r",
I'll never pledge allegiance to this fcukin' country. And that's why when anyone asks me where i was born or where i'm from, which was N.Y., I hesitate, and then i tell them my parents nationality.
I just want equality, that's all i want. Is that to much to ask?

Things have gotten worse.
Answer: Using a computer to access the internet and whine about the white man.
How is that worse than say ... 150 year ago?
You can whine all you want, but the fact is you CAN whine all you want. You think you would have had this ability 150 years ago? How about 50 years ago?
It always amazes me when a person takes for granted the things they have to whine about how bad things are.
You need to get over yourself. Grow a damned backbone. Things are not as bad as your paranoid mind makes them out to be. You're not special, you're one of 301,139,947 people living in this country. You don't deserve special treatment. You get the same treatment as anyone else. Includeing the hate for being different. You think that anyone doesn't have to deal with hatred for being different? Let me tell you something, I grew up with epilepsy, and boy was that fun. I was exluded and treated as a pest growing up simply because of my disability. Did I let that get me down? No. Did I go and whine on a forum about you "able-eds"? No, I didn't.
Yeah you had some rough shit in your life. But what makes a person, what defines who they really are, is how they handle the adversity in their life. Do you think that Any of your heroes whould whine on a message board about the problems getting them down? Martin Luther King Jr, or Malcom X or Kenshiro would be sitting on their ass all day whining about how they're not being treated fairly on a goddamned messageboard?
No, I don't think they would, they'd be out there doing something about it and not being some whiny little *****.

Our "freedom" was a means to an end.
Lincoln said threat if he could have ended the war without freeing a single slave, he would have.

They were Greedy and Short sighted, and unwittingly DOOMED Africa from the moment the first "Slave" was sold.

I have read a lot of wisdom and a lot of idiocracy these past 46 pages of posts. Here is my "two cents".
I have experienced racism in multiple forms:
I wasn't treated as well by some teachers in public school.
I wasn't allowed to do certain things at some jobs (Such as attend product briefings and such. My co-workers wouldn’t tell me when the meeting was or they wouldn’t forward the e-mail onto me etc.) because of the color of my skin...and this impaired my abilities to perform my job.
I was rejected by women multiple times because of the color of my skin. (I did not know at first, in most cases, that it was my skin color that prevented dating with these women...or that my skin was preventing any type of relationship.)
One relationship I had was broken up by a two friends of I woman I was dating because her friends did not like the color of my skin. Here is a little secret I want to share: I am Caucasian. The above race-based discrimination I have experienced in my life came only from African Americans.
At one job, it got damn near impossible for “a white person” to say anything without certain African Americans trying to find a reason to twist it into racism. It was a group of only 6 African Americans terrorizing an entire building of about 1000 employees. (And yes, there were many races employed at this job…it was only these six African Americans “messing” with people.) Even things that were not remotely related to race or racism, these 6 people would try to twist what someone would say into racism. It was horrible. They actually had an attitude similar to FOTN. I am very sure that these select individuals caused some people to become slightly racist. Amazing was just a few people can do to someone’s opinion of millions of people…that really sucks. Why I am I telling you all this?
Simple.
I want you all to know that I hold nothing against African Americans based on a few of life’s experiences. I have had countless other positive experiences with African Americans so why should I let a few shitty experiences cloud my judgment? Why would I pass judgment against an entire people based of off a few bad experiences? I usually chose not to recognize race and instead chose to look at everyone as humans not as “blacks” “whites” etc. I am not a “tree hugger” but I do believe there should be a lot more forgiveness in this world.
Good post. I would like to think that some of what I wrote helps you to understand (NOT EXCUSE) where some of this anomosity comes from.
How can we understand one another if we don't understand ourselves?

No one is telling you to forget about slavery, it's in the ****ing textbooks... But stop pretending like you're suffering like some slave, it's pathetic. And, racism does exist, it exist in many forms and colors. You're an example of that.

That racial slur, like many things in Black speech carries a double meaning.
Crackers lack flavor and offer little sustenance as a food and or snack.
If LOVE is, indeed, food for the soul.
White folks have been feeding us "Crackers" for a long time.
In other words the term refers to the stereo type that White people are "Dry and Plain", and "Ain't got no Soul".

Really, I'd like to see that quote, because there was a huge abolitionist movement seeking to free the slaves. Why do you think the South succeeded (one reason)? Because they wanted to keep their slave labor force.
Sorry, "blacks" do not have the market on "my slavery was worse than yours"... Slavery existed long before the "White man", even ancient African's partook in "slaving" their own conquered countrymen.
Now "Obama" is under some "White racist conspiracy"... *sigh*
Echinoderms have the ability to regenerate lost limbs/body parts, why not humans? Your "genetic slave memory" tangent, is a poor excuse.
Are you implying that all "White" Americans were racist regardless of owning slaves or not? If so, that's outright dumb.

Or talk about the injustice of slavery and daily life as a black person around "Universally Appealing" people.
Count how many of them get "uncomfortable".
