Hermes was pretty damn epic too, I had fun playing that level.Worst part of the game, Helio's death...such a letdown.
Helios was stupid.
One more Titan encounter would have been sweet.
Gotta say I think I loved the Hades fight the best, then Hercules/Cronos fights behind that. Poesidan was sweet to.
I saw some of this game being played today.
It's still way too hack and slash/simple for me, but it's SUCH a nice looking game.
The person playing it showed me the Hermes death, the Poseidon fight and the Hercules fight.
Hermes death was geniusly orchestrated. The fact that it's quite an annoying character AND a chase where he's mocking you makes the sheer violence of the execution that much sweeter.
Hercules fight I found to be a bit boring until the end when you get his gauntlets. It spoke to the primal instinct in me, I think. To partake in a brutal slugfest which ends with you literally punching the dude's face to smitherines was nice. Very satisfying.
Poseidon seemed like typical God of War, which is not what I like.
There is something balletic, as Yahtzee said, about watching all the orchestrated brutality, but it's just too simple for me. The fact that a bit more thought has been put into the combat and battles is what elevates it just slightly above the Devil May Crys and Bayonettas, but it's still too button-bashy.
I still can't say I see all the fuss.
I can see why it'd be fun, for a while, though. If someone gave it to me, I'd keep it. It's not a game I'd buy.

While I have to agree that the entire GOW series is a simple button masher, what really makes me a fan are the puzzles. That, and the brutality of the game.
However, I am currently having buyer's remorse after finishing GOW III, on hard mode, in about 7 hours flat. The replay value, I admit, is not terribly high, but it is, in my opinion, a grand enough game to have some replay value. Still, I had hoped for more game play.

The lack of NG+ screwed us over in replay value. There's still a way to start the game with all your weapons and items though. MAXed too if I recall correctly.
Also, there are challenge runs for extra replay value.
Not the NG+ I was referring to.
With the NG+ that one normally accesses in GoW3, does one also have the Claws of Hades, Cestus, Nemesis Whip, Apollo's Bow, Hermes Boots, & Helios' Head from the beginning?
Didn't think so.
No, the NG+ I was referring to & referencing is the one in GoW2, where we had all our weapons and magic from the start. Clearly not the same thing in GoW3.

I'm happy to say that I can't pick a favorite. In that regard, I'd say Sony Santa Monica succeeded in making all the extra weapons as good as the Blades of Exile.
Though I suppose if I had to pick the one I probably used most (or at least remember so), it'd be the Claws of Hades.

Nemesis Whips were my most used. It has a really fast launcher, and Tirade is bad-ass.
Otherwise, Cestus & Blades of Athena. Hard to stop using our main weapon from GoW2.

I think my favorite though has to be Claws of Hades. They just fit the title being able to rip and summon souls. Plus they gave you all the functionality of the Blades of Exile. Good range as well. Plus I just loved how cool Hades looked using them in this game and GOW2. That and being able to think or yell "Your soul is mine" is awesome.
After that I would probably put the Nemean Cestus. They were just raw looking and I felt just pure brutal when using them. 😛
