The official "What's this Movie?" thread!

Hey all. I'm looking for the name of a movie I rented from the library while I was attending college. It was about 1993-94, but the movie was probably a little older than that. I think it's a French film and it's about a violin maker with a daughter (period film) who takes on an apprentice and spends his evenings talking to his wife's ghost as he carves a new violin in his work shop. Of course there's drama ending with his daughter commiting suicide. I hope someone knows of this film I've wanted to own it or at least see it again for ages now. Thanks for the help!!!! 😛

What's the one about a white guy teaching all these black guys about basketball? I know in one part, as part of some initiation, the black guys slowly cut the white guy's gut with a knife, and the white guy quietly says, "Not too low." Also in one part this one black prodigy comes out and does a slam dunk, and dangles from the hoop in super slow motion with tribal singing in the background. Oh, and in the beginning, this guy blows a lot of dust off a book. That's all i can remember. I saw it when I was like 6.

It's a sci-fi android movie from, I assume, early to mid-80s. I've tried IMDb, I've tried googling android films.

Here's what I can say.

It is set, mainly in one area of a post apocalyptic city. There's two warring factions of either androids or human survivors. One b-list 80s action star already lives in the city and is at war. Another older 80s b-list star who's apparently a drifter, and if I remember clearly, is an android as well. The drifter comes in and resolves the situation, and I can't even remember how.

Any help would be fantastic. Even a location of a listing of 80s action stars would help me.

Are you possibly talking about 'Blade Runner' with Rutger Hauer and Harrison Ford. Just guessing here.

I saw this movie a while back where this hot chick in laytex jumpsuit had a guy tied up in a chair and she raped him. I was telling some friends about it the other day but i cannot remember what it was called can anyone help me out please?

It sounds like Omega Doom with Rutger Hauer but this movie was made in 1996.

So, I'm looking for a movie, like anyone here. : )
I think that this movie was produced in US (99% sure). It was made i think in '70s.

Film is about an afro american, who was some kind of mercenary, but he knew kung-fu, and you know, ninja style and stuff. He and other mercenaries, worked together to accomplish missions (sorry for my english, it sucks : S) which were given to them by a man on a wheelchair (I know sounds stupid : S). So they tried to do things he told them to do, and by the time they were doing these thing, someone (ninja i guess? : S) killed them one by one, someone got shot, other was killed with sword i guess, another one in a kung-fu fight, but most important is that they were killed by someone dressed black in ninja suit, with his head covered like a ninja, so they didn't knew who he was. The last one, who survived, was afro american, main character, and he discovered, that the man on the wheelchair, who gave them missions, was that bad ninja who killed his mates. : ) Sounds so stupid i know : ) In the end, there is a fight, between bad ninja and good ninja, ofcourse good ninja wins, and gets his revenge. : )
It was something like ninja style action movie from 70's, with kung fu fights, sword fights and that stuff. : )

I saw a preview for an upcoming release in the late 90's, early 00's and have been trying to find the name ever since.
The movie was a South-American political thriller/drama. The main charector (latin-light skin) is tasked or otherwise involved in the uncovering of a possible coup developing in the country. The main charector is wondering if there is a coup at all, becoming frustrated. Thats all I can remember.
Maybe there are South-American political thriller buffs out there to help out!? Thanks

I'm trying to think of the name of some older movie where a kid robs a bank, and goes to give himself up in the end but is shot.

Maybe "Keeping The Faith", Ben Stiller as a Rabbi, Ed Norton as a "Father" something, and the girl, Jenna Elfman? They fight over her through the movie, don't know if this is the one, came out in 00'

Thanks for the help with "the professional", that was definitely it. Now to an even less remembered film.... black and white I think... in the end, the child(?) convinces the killer?/kidnapper? to push them on the swingset and yells "higher" "higher" which sounds like "fire" so help is sent. I think someone hides in the cupboard under the kitchen sink in one scene. Not much to go on, sorry.

If anyone can help me with this I will owe them forever!

A year or two ago I was taking a bus from NYC to Boston. The guy next to me was watching a movie on a laptop. Now he had English subtitles on but he was wearing headphones so I don't know if it was a foreign film or perhaps he just liked subtitles, who knows. Anyway, the basic story went like this, a bunch of kids in the woods, I think it was prom night, and something goes wrong. They all get butchered. There were a pair of brothers, one brother survives and returns home. The other brother, the one who supposedly flipped out and did the killings gets picked up by some recluse who makes him wear a welding mask to cover his scarred face.

The brother who returned home moves to a new town, tries to put the whole thing behind him and eventually moves in with a hot girl from the neighborhood.

The brother who ended up with the woodsman starts to kill for the guy. He goes after the man's wife who had divorced him.

Right about this time the low battery icon popped up and the guy closed his laptop. Not only did I not get to see the end of the movie but I never found out what it was called. Please Please Please somebody help me out here. You can respond here or email me at [email protected].

I've been trying to find the name of this film for ages. At least I think it's a film, it's possible it could also be from an episode of "In Search Of..." or "Unsolved Mysteries" or even "Murder She Wrote", though I think that's less likely.

Anyway, what I remember is that there is a mystery about this old ship that has been in service for many many years. One day someone (might be a cleaner) notices that one of the portholes is quite dusty from the inside, and goes inside to find the corresponding cabin, but is unable to find it, not even on the blueprints. Eventually they discover the room behind a wall they have to break through to enter. Apparently when the ship was constructed, the room had been entirely enclosed, but more mysteriously, the room is furnished and contains various knick-knacks, possibly belonging to a little girl or something. There may have also been stories of the ship being haunted, but that's about all I can remember.

I may have a few details confused or mis-rememberd, but it's been many many years since I've seen it, which would have been during the 80's or early 90's.

Any ideas much appreciated, even if it only reminds you of a novel or short story.

im looking for the name of a movie i saw when i was about 10 or 11 .(19 years ago) i think. i only know a bit about it witch is its about a man i think goes into space and get to close to the sun and when he returns he has to where sun glasses. but when he takes them off he gets super powers like running really fast and super strengh. thats all i can remember i hope someone can help me. i really want to see it again
