Although the movie Dead Zone doesn't follow the DBZ storyline, I think it happened around the time of the Raditz saga (since both Goku and Piccolo fought Garlic Jr. without their weighted training clothing like they did against Raditz, and those were like the only times in DBZ where Goku took his boots off in a fight), and Garlic Jr. didn't escape the Dead Zone as a result of infant Gohan's anger up until... shortly after the Frieza saga. wounded2

So eh, I guess that is a little too long in between. After Doomsday knocks Garlic Jr. into the Dead Zone (if he were to), DD would assume it's over and claim total victory, rather than stand around and wait that long for GJ to escape.

The Dead Zone was before the Raditz saga, I think it was the first DBZ production?

It be around the same time though. And would how far the Makyo star be from Earth make it faster or slower to get out of the Dead Zone?

Hmm guess that just leaves speculation though. I mean it's not known how long Garlic would take to get out if the star was as close to Earth as possible or anything.
