so how many people happy with the look of the joker?

yeah nobody here is questioning Ledgers PERFORMANCE as Joker, but Oldman and Caine or Nolan- at least to my knowledge, haven't given us an explanation for WHY the look of the joker is vastly different from the comics and they at least owe us one.

Hmmm...but we've seen just as much of his appearance as we have his performance...my point being, people are going to have their opinions, love or hate for either...and that's perfectly fine. Though, I don't think you're really arguing with that fact.

Either way, I'll shut up considering it has little to do with the title of the thread.

There's a difference between knowing if something looks good appearance wise and knowing if a whole performance in a movie is good. That shot of the Joker is how he is going to look. Those pictures, that's how he is going to look. The shots of Heath's performance in the trailer are not capturing his full performance. He could have strong stuff or weak stuff in the trailer, and have better or worse material in the movie so you never can say IMO 100% that he will be good or bad based on that, though you can have your inclinations on it.

But how he looks, is how he looks.

true.

I love the look of the Joker in the new film. One thing I like about the films is the level of realism, and Ledger's Joker is swell.

To be honest, I think the new joker looks amazing.

It seems Heath has taken the Joker and totally transformed him into a MORE menacing villain, I never thought that particular character could be portrayed even more menacing than the original comic/cartoon character and still have such a sense of realism. I am of course speaking from what I have seen of the trailer, but what I have seen so far is completely top notch, and Heath would probably be proud to make it his final performance.

I have a feeling it will be an Oscar worthy performance or atleast a performance worthy of an Oscar nod, and I will go out on a limb and say it will probably be the best performance in a comic movie so far.

I agree. I love the Jokers look, I'm iffy about the Batsuit, I think they should of gone with a more classic look, but I also believe that in order to get the crowds and fans they did for the 1st one, they needed to go for a "newer" look, something that goes with today's society.
The Joker looks amazing, I love how he looks, very ' crazed maniac". I disagree with how they are introducing him, i believe I read somewhere that they were saying that 'The Joker doesnt care about himself', what a load of bull, the Joker cares ONLY about himself, I know that this point has already been established, so I'll leave it where it is. But for today's times, they needed to go with this look, or they would of risked people not liking his look (and who knows, people may of liked it better), but I think they captured how The Joker would look, if he was a villain in the real world.

I don't get how someone having neat clown make up isn't realistic though being that I've been to the circus several times in real life and have seen it accomplished 😆

The Joker clearly does not care about himself in this movie... anyone who cared about themselves would not go out of the house looking like that 😆

very good point.that shoots down that point that he cares about himself. 😆 also that other point that they needed to go with this look or they would risk other people not liking his look holds no water because EVERYBODY who knows about batman knows about the joker as well since he is Batman's most famous villain being his arch enemy and all,so if ANYTHING,they have already alienated quite a few batman fans in the hundreds at LEAST with this new look so the movie ALREADY has people not liking his look. so that point can be thrown out the window as well.

I think it's rather silly for fans to feel their 'alienated' just because a character looks different they obviously aren't real fans as you real fans can usually let things slide if the performance is real and as long as their still entertained.

After all at least we're getting GOOD Batman movies now rather than more campier and cornier sequals.

so is it safe to assume that this joker didnt fall into a vat of chemical waste??

Hello? We're talking about fanboys and fangirls. The same people who complained about what Tim Burton did to Batman (and their points were valid to an extent) and so of course you can alienate people with the look of a character being drastic and ridiculous. See Batman Returns. Though as I stated before at least Tim Burton gave a reason for the Penguin's nasty appearance...but people still didn't like it. And I think Danny Devito did a pretty good job with what he was given. I personally like that Batman film the most but I understand why people don't like it at all.

oh please give me a break.just because some of us dont blindly worship the ground that Nolan walks on and think he is god at making batman movies doesnt mean were not real fans. 🙄 You dont go an change an iconic image that has worked for so long and has been around for decades.

The thing I loved so much about Batman Begins was Nolan you could tell, was making the movie for the fans,THIS time around,as Starlock said a couple pages back,,he just seems to be making this movie in HIS image and not for the fans this time. When a director starts middling with a classic character just to do something different with an icon figure, well he has crossed the line and Nolan has done that.as someone else said earlier, this is something you would expect from Burton not Nolan.

Seriously though to me this look change for the Joker is confusing. You look at Nolan's Joker and it looks more like something Burton would create (remember penguin). But then you take Burtons Joker and you would (looking at Begins) associate that more with the clean-cut Nolan universe.

this poster hit the nail right on the head.I could not have said it better myself. 👆

this isnt a very good post because thats not true. You NEVER heard people complaing about how the joker looked in the batman 60's show or in batman 89 because the joker looked like he is SUPPOSE to from the comics in both those mediums.

I don't either i mean why does Bats have to have a love interest and why does it have to be Racheal Dawes of all the people lol.

I just think come on yes it's different but none of us have seen the performance yet and that's what it's about i'd rather have this looking joker yet his mannerisms and persona perfectly captured than a exact lookalike clean cut slick version of joker in some godawful shit like Batman & Robin.

Not everythings gonna be perfect you have to roll with the punches at the end of the day NONE of us have seen it yet for all we know. Joker could fall into a vat of chemicals at the end of the movie....

'an icon figure'

Yet theres nothing wrong with change or giving a concept a facelift because at the end of the day it all reverts back to it's original form.

Everyone has a different image and idea of a character in their mind if we sat here discussing the coolest and our favourite Joker moments etc. we'd all have different ones because we all like different things about the character.

I mean for goodness sake theres no pleasing some people and like life not everythings gonna work out they way you plan. I feel sorry for directors sometimes cause they can't win with the fans because of some obscure detail yet these same fans cry and moan when theres no films being made in the first place or anymore. It's like a self serving paradox.

All fans have got to take a hit with somethings they don't like i mean if the joker was slick rick and suited and booted in this movie the otherside of the coin would be fans saying how he wasn't updated or realistic.

It's the overall product that counts here guys and on July the 18th we'll all be blown away.

And this won't change 40+ years of Joker history which would be impossible anyway so theres nothing to fear.

yes there IS!!! if its not broken, dont fix it.it was fine the way it was so leave it the hell alone.of course everybody here im sure would rather have the look of the joker in this film than have him with the look from batman 89 and be stuck with that godawful movie.thats a no brainer.I've always said that the look of the joker wont ruin the film for me,its just like I was given the cake for desert but they forgot the icing so Im not getting the best cake I could have so at the end of the day, cant help leaving feeling just a little dissapointed knowing i could have had an even BETTER cake than what was given to me.

Nolan deserves the flak he is getting because again I never thought HE would go all Burton on us-ala PENGUIN-BATMAN RETURNS. thats just a theory that fans would be saying that he wasnt updated or realistic.really stop defending Nolan,it was moronic of him to go all Burton on us.you cant get around that.of course this movie will blow us away,i have no doubt, but again,it will still be dissapointing knowing we were not given the best possible batman movie we could have had, that it could have been even better.

this ISNT the same case or on the same level with the batmobile at all.I still dont like the look of the batmobile in these movies and will always prefer the look of the batmobile in the burton films over this tank in the Nolan films.Thats about the one thing right that Burton did in his batman movies better than Nolan and the look of the joker of course. But at least with the batmobile,I was able to gradually adjust to it and accept it.I will NEVER accept the look of the joker.comeon the joker was always a clean cut spiffy looking villian,THIS joker looks like he badly needs a bath BIG TIME and must smell really badly. 😘 thats NOT the joker at all.He ALWAYS cares about his appearance. 😠
