Oh and I didnt change arguments.
In sg didnt he want to destroy the multiverse while in hotu he kind of stumbled onto it. Plus didnt god want him to become god to fix the problem.
With regards to annihilation he wasnt out to conquer the universe but wanted something to do outside the norm. Why not ally yourself wit Annihulus. He did and and actively set out to foil his plans because he wasnt a nihilist anymore. The old Thanos would have tried to help him kill everyone for death but he changed since the ig or did you forget. 🙂

Thanos died. And his opponent was (at best) a class 40 that could be cut by knives...
Darkseid survived. His opponent was a being that takes exploding suneaters, splits and pushes moons, travels faster than light, and has on two accounts faced abstracts (Dominus and Death) and is essential to the universe.
So, with that being said... Darkseid is alot better off.
