Does the prospect of becoming a lesser nation scare you?

The US at least tries to keep up appearances they have laws they have to follow and sure they break and stretch them but they are still somewhat guided by them. They still somewhat have to listen to their people and still try to get support from other nations and do try to keep public opinion in their favor, they aren't willing to bomb entire towns into smithereens and try not to let entire towns starve.

China would have no such problems.

Not to mention and this is far more important for us (people in "western" country's), that the US needs us to survive, China needs us far less. The US has a culture that's largely the same and considers us allies, China does not. The US would not harm us to much if they have the choice, China wouldn't care that much.

Well I'll tell you one thing, China will never accept a One World Government, not while they have a chance to take their position as king of the hill. No way. If our corrupt government wants a One World Government, they are going to have to beat it out of China. And thats not gonna be pritty. In fact, I don't think we currently have a chance of winning a World War 3. We'll need a "Divine Intervention".

Congressional lawyers just held a five hour conference with Roger Clemens on if he took steroids or not...

Yep, priorities are certainly in order.

Roger Clemens!

This seems like it should be in a joke thread but this is where our taxes go. I'm sure this affects me in some way I can't possibly understand.

Rome didn't fall (like crash) per se, it was slowly sold out from under the Roman citizen's noses and chipped away by foreigners. Hey, wait...

Lol well said. They do say history repeats itself.

I could care less though. This country is going to shit now anyway. The rights of illegals are greater then the rights of the citizens. All that matters to me is my bank account and wallet.

That might be a good reason to support China for you, but for the rest of us that don't believe in such far fetched idea's China is probably still a really bad thing.

"Can be fined" and actually punishing corporations are two totally different things.

In the U.S. people lose jobs constantly because of capital flight because it is "cheaper" to do business there because they can be so negligent to workers abroad.

Still, there is plenty that the middle to lower class get screwed on all the time. I think I can vouch since I among those people.

Ideally, the U.S. seems the best but there's no way to know that without going around each place. The U.S. has plenty of areas that look as bad as 3rd world countries (just go into the inner city of some of the major cities; I have lived in these areas also).

I'm not about to crown the U.S. for anything because hardly anything goes as it should ideally if you are not among the middle-upper class or above.

I can't disagree with you, but in Russia, journalists are being executed by the government. In China, environmental protesters are imprisoned and vast regions in the north of the country are being left in drought in order to maintain economic growth.

Like, were there a nation that had a better record than the Americans, that would be awesome. We can look at the track record, and ya, 1800s America may have been worse than 1950s Russia or China. But in the contemporary world, America allows far more freedom in the world than China or Russia would.

I'd like to see India as the next major power... I think they have a chance 🙂

Agreed.

I just think that these far-branching myths that America is the best place to live for all people is pretty stupid.

That might seem a silly question, but it certainly frightens me. (That might also seem a silly thing to fear.) I hear all these things about American education being poor and the technological advances we haven't made yet, and I worry that we're going to fall far behind the rest of the world, relegated to a second-world country. I see decadence and foolishness and inanity consuming peoples' lives, and I worry that we're going to fall harder than the Roman Empire. (Insert your country of choice in place of "America."😉

The people themselves are anyway. 🙂

How unfortunate. Just leave the US and get citizenship in a country that isn't in an inescapable downward spiral.

Would you mind pointing out a country like that?

Yep, they even accepted those indigenous peoples!

C'mon man! That reminds me of when the former Italian Prime Minister made a joke about Nazis to a German politician. Its like focusing on something obvoulsy negative when their are lots of other positive aspects to Canada.

I dont have a in-depth knowledge of the native history in Canada but it does not seem as bad as it was in America.

heard of a little place called kashmir? hmmm, what about rampant poverty, corruption, unbeleiveably closed caste system, the major power of high caste hindu extremists, relegious violence, pursuit of military power, unbretheably suffocating norms and culture, honour killings, open discrimination, open sexism etc etc. dont let phrases like "the largest democracy in the world" and the media projection of india fool you. it is a ****ED up country.

I could be wrong but I dont think hes saying that India isnt ****ed up. I just think hes saying we would be better of if India became a superpower as opposed to China.

No, I'm actually well aware of that. They have massive problem's in the NE with tribal areas and Naxalites/Communists as well.

However, as bad as they are, there are domestic groups that are trying to change. At this point in time, the caste system is not as rigid as you make it sound, but there are those who are oppressed because of it.

The main reason I'd say India is my candidate, would be geopolitics. America or China or Russia have it great, they are large nations who are surrounded by nations who really couldn't do too much to them. China is possibly an exception, given Japan, India, and N Korea, but compare China to India, and again we get into the differences in human rights abuses, again the big issue being that in China, the state has so much control, it doesn't need to hide the things that even in India are considered government corruption.

If India became a major power, they are sandwiched between Pakistan and China. That to me seems like the best check on the international actions of a superpower. In a world under the influence of India, the military would almost have to play less of a roll.
