Alien 3 had a perfectly respectable stylistic setup- return it to horror, a single alien killer, the feeling of claustrophobic isolation, and even the only good character the franchise got after Aliens (and before David in Prometheus) in the form of the WAY too soon killed off Charles Dance (aka Tywin Lannister). Actually the 'priest' guy wasn't bad.
Ok, it ballsed a lot of that potential up, but I think they had a reasonable pitch (inside the subset of 'we don't actually have anything new to add to the franchise' of course. Say what you like about Prometheus, but it did have new ideas. Actually, I quite liked Prometheus as well).
Where was I? Oh yeah- Alien 4 had neither interesting ideas nor style, so that loses the most for me. Though I've seen WAY worse films than that. The underwater scene was actually quite cool, now I thnk about it.
