Aliens: Colonial Marines

Huh, I have no interest in this game whatsoever, however I just learned of the huge twist in the game (if you haven't seen it yet Ush, you'll love it):

Spoiler:
Hicks is alive. He never went into the escape-pod with Ripley and Newt but stayed behind on the ship, and was later kidnapped by the bad guys in the game.

I'm at a loss of words.

Yeah I heard it. That sort of stupidity speaks for itself, of course, because even if it wasn't completely absurd... it's not even very good. At least ret-conning Hadley's Hope has the excuse of 'we wanted the players to run around Hadley's Hope', which is still pretty lazy in my view but there is a logic to be seen, but that twist just buys nothing but contempt for no gain at all.

And concerning

Spoiler:
Hicks it pretty much says he was in that escape pod in Aliens 3 and died.

Yeah,

Spoiler:
Ripley even buries his corpse in 3.

Obviously, in order for this to work, they would basically have to flat out state that Aliens 3 and 4 didn't happen.

Something I wouldn't mind actually...

The third movie was pretty good, As for the 4th movie we won't go there.

Worse- they handwave it. The continuity objection is raised in-game, and all it gets is "That's another story."

I spoilered the above posts, just in case.

Or they could just take back what they said about Colonial Marines being canon and say it's actually fanfiction and tell Randy Pitchford to deal with it. Speaking of Peter Molyneux, I wonder if he or Gearbox as a whole will ever face any criminal charges for that crap they pulled at E3 with that demo that wasn't even remotely in the game. Last I checked, false advertising is illegal.

It may well be unethical, but it's not actually illegal to use test footage to advertise your game in advance; you just have to face the commercial consequences of alienating your fans. It's only illegal if you put it on the box or release information/adverts etc. and it's not there.

I'm still undecided on which of those I felt were the worst one, might actually prefer Resurrection (in the manner one would prefer one form of torture above another).

Alien 3 had a perfectly respectable stylistic setup- return it to horror, a single alien killer, the feeling of claustrophobic isolation, and even the only good character the franchise got after Aliens (and before David in Prometheus) in the form of the WAY too soon killed off Charles Dance (aka Tywin Lannister). Actually the 'priest' guy wasn't bad.

Ok, it ballsed a lot of that potential up, but I think they had a reasonable pitch (inside the subset of 'we don't actually have anything new to add to the franchise' of course. Say what you like about Prometheus, but it did have new ideas. Actually, I quite liked Prometheus as well).

Where was I? Oh yeah- Alien 4 had neither interesting ideas nor style, so that loses the most for me. Though I've seen WAY worse films than that. The underwater scene was actually quite cool, now I thnk about it.

The "taming" scenes with the doctor and the switch were very cool in my books as well. I wish there were had been more of those.

I wouldn't mind the quality of the Alien itself in the other films to be equal to that of Alien 4. Aside from Aliens, they were the best looking ones.

And aside from the massive plot hole in the third one, I quite enjoyed it.

The Alien 3 directors cut is pretty solid, imo.

Resurrection... I suppose it's better than AVP...

wow, Joe is mad. more than angry.

After almost waiting half as long as waiting for Duke Nukem Forever, he has a right to be pissed how disappointing it is. After breaking a world record in throwing more guns in a shooter than anyone else, Gearbox seems determined now to break another in destroying the most games that have been anticipated the longest. Pray now id Software never hands them Doom 4.

Oh, I'm not saying he's wrong. I'm right there with him. This game, if it was even a solid 7/10 game, would have been enough for me. But no, they couldn't even manage that with an IP that is responsible for influencing so many other shooters.

In Alien 3, I didn't like how they used CGI for the Alien but there is a few awesome parts in it. I loved the score for that movie and lightening.

I remember a critic say about how Alien 3 was the best bad movie ever made.

I've slighty lost respect for Gearbox

yes they made some great games, but on the other hand they get handed these games that have gotten stuck in development hell and they do bad job of reviving them.

In the game the aliens sprint on all fours, but when they fight, they rear up on to two legs. I don't like that.

Ohh, I see. I thought they walked around on two legs throughout the whole game or something, haha.

😂

I prefer how they were in AVP. Yes, they were on two legs for a short time, but they didn't run across the screen on them.

WT-?! That's such an odd visual. I'm used to seeing them like in the films and how they were represented in the AVP games as well. Some odd ass shit.
