On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund. -Source <http://www10.earthhourus.org/>.- Will you observe?

I'll turn off most of my lights.

I'll be watching porn and eating pizza while having 9 vibrators and 5 lights turned on.

I'm doing my part.

In 53 minutes I turn off my computer, all my lights and have some fun!

Aren't you supposed to do it in-sync?

I'm sure they're going by EST, so don't you turn it off whenever it's 8 EST?
...
Like sixteen minutes ago?

It's 8:17 PM right now. hanuts

^ So why is your computer on?

But it doesn't really matter I'll turn em' off 8-9 my time.

Good attitude. If everybody thought about global problems and cared, then the Earth WOULDN'T ever die.

So tell me, how fast will this "Earth Hour" event be nullified by tomorrow? Do you really think a couple hours of no lights is going to have a lasting impact on the environment?

It will make people be more environmentally aware, and every little thing adds up. What do you propose we do that will leave a positive impace on the world? This is a good way to make citizens aware and is something easy enough that some people will actually do it.

I don't think one single event can make everyone more aware of what could happen regarding the environment. Like I said before, things that a small group of people can/will do are going to be nullified by the larger whole in time.

By the sounds of it, your logic is that unless the human race does more for the planet/environment we won't leave a positive impact, which is ignorant. We leave our impact through our relationships, our jobs, our skills, our education and our actions. Not all of our impact is positive but not all of our impact is negative.

I don't think these events will make people anymore aware than they were before. Many people who will do these events will only do them because they heard it from a friend, through the radio, saw it on the internet or television. They won't bother to actually look up facts or think about what they are doing. They will just do it.

This whole effort is ultimately wasted in the end.
