It's the extra powers Thor has with mjolnir, like energy absorbtion (draining solar energy from Superman's cells), plus Supes vunerability to magic-based attack - disrupting the bio aura that protects him - that gives him the edge in this matchup. Truthfully, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel should be more formidable opponents for Thor. Superman's best shot would be to strike very fast and early; also, getting Thor angry can make him cloud his strategy.

In book 2, he used the hammer to knock Superman through the trees. He then tried to use it again, but Superman stoped it with his hand.

In h2h superman will get his ass kicked plain and simple. Thor is to powerful superman, thor can call upon lighting or other mystical powers without the hammer, the hammer just increase the lighting/mystical powers. Thor warrior skills a greater than superman fighting ability, look at it Orion, Wonder Woman, Thor are warrior born written correctly they will serve superman any day of the week, but Dc acts like if superman loose to them it will diminish him or Dc will fall apart. That's what dislike about Dc they won't allow superman to lose at all they will come up some bull shit in order for him to win. While marvel characters written correctly they can beat each other depending on the story line.
Thor over all is to powerful superman, sooner you fanboys accept it better people will like superman more. Losing to Thor, Wonder Woman, Orion, Hulk, Captain Marvel(shazam) their is no shame in it, it will make superman a better character and more rounded super hero in the future. And again energy absorbing isn't going to work, Major Force tried that and failed. Superman's absorption rate would probably equal out the draining rate from the hammer so even if Thor does this it wouldn't make a difference.
I think we're overestimating Superman's magic "weakness"
All it means is that magical items or spells affect Big Blue the same way anything else would. He's not oversensitive to it or anything.
Thor's strength is magical in the sense that it makes him strong, not that every punch has magic associated with it. His hammer is magical. A punch from Thor would hurt Superman due to the fact that Thor is comparable in strength. And a thwack from the hammer would hurt because of the very nature of Mjolnir.
Superman wins this IMO. Like I said he's too fast for Thor, he could use his Heat Vision to counter most of Thor's offensive attacks, and can just freeze his arms knocking away his hammer.

What -is- stupid is Thor -being surprised- someone did it (when it has happened before) and lay down his guard like a rookie.
The second dumb part was that yes under most writters he would have had his hand broken or hurt. Hulk had. Norvell was using the iron Gauntlets and Nefaria was just that strong or used his powers to prevent it from happen.

Superman wasn't going all out though and if I remeber from that crossover, Heat Vision was hurting Thor. Again and can just freeze his arms knocking away his hammer or just speedbiltz him.
