As far as I've heard, that was all Busiek.

He's the same writer who had Superman take on the entire Crime Society at the same time, and actually hold his own, including completely punking Ultraman (Using pressure point finger jabs at super speed!) and Ultrawoman one after the other, so his opinion of Supermans combat capabilities is probably almost as high as Loebs, if not higher. (Even Loeb had Superman struggle against comparable characters like Captain Marvel..)

I still stand by dc wouldn't allow Superman to fall before Thor. In any event it was a close battle either way which does not determine the majority just based off of one close fight like I said previously.
