There is nothing to explain. Surfer hasn't tank a Supernova. He just rides the waves created by explosion.
Otherwise we get to claim that Superman tanked 50 supernovas while weakened just because he was caught by the electromagnetic wave.
Either or I am fine with it. If you are going to claim this is surfer tanking a supernova explosion then I am sure there will be no problem saying that Superman tanked 50 supernovas.
