Question: Is there any single person here who likes to bash the prequels who is under 20 years old?
I never really got all the hate for the prequels, except for the whole 'nostalgia' factor that makes people refuse to accept that anything is better, or equal, to the Originals they watched as kids. Seriously, once you get over the nostalgia, you see the some of the prequels are well-made and that the OT, godamnit, wasn't perfect.
I proudly love the Prequels. I also think RotS is better than Empire.
Why did I say that?
... because this thread needs a dosage of non-prequel basher-ness.

No one says the OT was perfect. And the PT was excellently made...if you talk about the look. The story and characters and acting just were oftentimes bad and unexciting. And there were quite a few "little things" that were annoying. And they were just not as good movies as the old ones. But hey, it's probably just nostalgia, despite the fact that I was just 13 year olds when I watched The Phantom Menace and that I was extremely excited about every single Prequel movie.

What do you gauge your perception of "better" on? Visually or Literary?
If the former, then I pity you.

I didn't say it was all nostalgia. I also didn't point you out, because I've seen you on the other thread, and I know you're not a basher. Just an OT > PT person. That's fine.
What pisses me off is all these 'PT had SHITTY EFFECTS!" bullshit, that should fit in with the "PT Duels SUCKED!", "Puppet Yoda > CGI Yoda", "OT Sabers > PT Sabers" crowd. Seriously, the way people can be so blind about certain things, due to their love of the Originals.
By the way, I was talking to the other people on this thread. You and I all... well... settled our argument on the whole PT business.
Edit: I'm cursed with the Edit disease.
Impediment, I think you mean that if it's the 'latter', you pity me. You have to be either blind or insanely stupid not to see that the PT had better special effects.
And I think that while the Prequels were sometimes inconsistent and childish, they all have spectacular actions sequences, interesting characters, and in the case of RotS, also superb character development. It's much more poetic, deep, and dark than any of the OT, except for... possibly ESB.

The PT did not have better special effects. It had better CGI and nothing more. This, sir, does not make a movie. Say what you will about Frank Oz and his puppetry, but Yoda in TESB is more convincing than the PT Yoda anyday. CGI alone does not, and I repeat, does not make for a better movie.
I know, Bardock. I know.
Impediment, I never claimed that CGI made a movie. But seriously. There's no denying that the PT had better effects; the CGI was convincing, realistic, breathtaking. It looked more like I'd imagine the Star Wars world than the OT.
I love Frank Oz, but, seriously. If you think a clunky, stupid-looking puppet is better than a realistic, detailed puppet with believable facial expressions that can fight and move like hell, then I pity you.

I get your point, I really do. However, I feel that the PT focused more on CGI and SFX than a solid storyline, something that I feel that the OT reigns supreme in. In a time where CGI is so very sophisticated and detailed, it seems to me that it has curtailed the aspect of storytelling and plot in almost every movie I see today in this age. I'm not trying to be hostile towards you. Really, I'm not. I just don't see how you feel that the marvel storytelling in the OT is surpassed by the, in my opinion, mediocre story telling in the PT.
BTW, this is me being anal: Yoda in the PT isn't a puppet. It's a computer. LOL.

Okay. Considering you're being nice ( 🙂 ), I won't try to prolong this debate.
Anyways, I do see your point. I certainly do. I also agree with you that the OT's story was probably better told, but the PT's story- when you look past the fart jokes and the stupid dialogue- is darker, more complex, and less black-and-white styled than the OT's.
I love all the SW movies. But I'm just sick of people badmouthing the PT whenever they get the chance; I mean, don't you think it's kind of stupid when people refer to Lucas as a 'talentless hack', for example, when he's the man who created their beloved OT and the SW universe?
Seriously. I don't have anything 'gainst people who liked the OT more than the PT. I do have something against people who insult it non-stop, for no reason. And they ruin a huge amount of the fun of discussing the SW saga. Seriously, that's what annoys me.

You pity someone because of their opinion on Yoda?? I think you are out of line, mister. Settle down right now.
For one thing, Frank Oz's Yoda in the OT was older than the Yoda in the PT and he was not required to fight and move like hell, so therefore a basic puppet was perfectly fine for the effect, the effect being that his ass was stuck on Degobah. When I see the Yoda in the OT, it amazes me that it's just a puppet. I thought they brought it to life. In the PT I am more aware that I'm watching a CG character than I was aware of watching a puppet in the OT, so in that respect, the effects for Yoda in the OT were better. Do you pity me for that? So be it. I eat guys like you for breakfast.
And for the record, I like both the OT and the PT. I'll always like the OT better because of nostalgia reasons and because it represents the true look and feel of what I think of when I think of Star Wars. The PT however is still really cool with its poppy-jazz lighting and crackling candycane CG effects, I can respect that.

Well, it's your opinion, I guess. I only used 'I pity you' as a sort of a response to Impediment's own 'I pity you' statement.
I like the old Yoda, obviously. But these days, I can barely look at him and not laugh. The new Yoda is, IMO, much better.
By the way, were you serious about The Clone Wars being the best SW movie? 😐
And Meistergen, it looks like you and I automatically have opposing views on movies. 😛
