It's not actually a bad idea to wait before doing Angel Forge-
Spoiler:Doing other missions first helps there.
first of all, the Tyrannids don't attack Meridian until you start doing those missions, which saves you pressure, and secondly you have to fight several Carnifexes at the 'Shut the Gate' mission, and you had best be equipped for that.
i <3 the dreadnought. his wide angle barrage is great, and adds a lot to the devastator marines, imo.
finally got around to finishing campaign, great final mission, realy enjoyed it.
for the carnifex, the plasma cannon seems to be the best weapon against him imo. very effective. shreds most infantry, but against carnifexes its a godsend...
Good news on initial sales:

Let's hope it lasts.
Wth news that THQ is in trouble, good sales are needed.
Well, I have completed it on Captain. It's not just grenades; all area effect weapons do stupid damaghe to yuor squads, and this scales as the enemies get more dangerous at the dsame rate you do.
Added difficulty is fine but only if it improves gameplay. Here it does nothing of the srort- you simply retreat from each engagement as you lose men to one big attack, reinforce, return and repeat until you win. Just makes missions petty and take longer, and hence here the higher difficulty is simply increasing dullness (not dissimilar to what Fire Emblem's problem is- an element that encourages boring play).
Despite it being a bit of a walkover I felt I had more fun on Sergeant. Captain I would recommend more for co-op,and frankly Primarch I would not touch with a bargepole; I just cannot see the tactics needed to play through it being the slightest bit fun.

totally agree. and with the eldar being grenade whores, it just makes the game annoying rather than genuinely tough.
ok, im on my second campaign run through, so i just thought i'd share some things, tips, wishes for dlc, etc.
i wish the termie armour was useful. if i send tarkus in with it, he starts shooting, then moments later stops, as if hit by some sort of confusion. i meant, what the hell man. terminators in the old game were brutally efficient. the rocket barrage is awesome, but in standard combat, they suck, imo.
speaking of terminators, thaddeus, imo, is at his most effective when he and his men are coming down from above, smashing in to enemies and scaring the living f*ck out of them. that is utterly ruined when he sticks on the termie armour. unless they make it so that he doesn't actually walk, and just teleports anywhere further than six feet. i know he teleports sometimes, but he gets bogged down far too often, imo.
Plasma Cannon = TEH AWESOME. seriously. it has to be the single most impressive weapon in the game. Carnifex? f*cked. Eldar tanks and turrets? f*cked. You can even fire it in to the ground and make medium level cover for yourself if none is handy.
also, i love getting the jet pack for the FC. Jump him in to soak up the initial attacks, and then bring in Thaddeus. Means Thaddeus lasts much longer in a fight now, and the FC moves quicker around the field.
question. for those of you regularly using tarkus, what weapon do you give him? out of termie armour, i mean.
i really <3 the last level. after
Spoiler:
infecting the vein, you lose your ship. you believe your marines are dead. so you decide to take on as many tyranids as you can. freakin awesome. watching thule use his barrage as the crowd comes down the hill, and the orbital bombardmant hit the carnifex right on the head, just reeks of so much awesomeness. seriously.
Ok, wish list.
Bigger squads. Now, no, i'm not trying to ruin the game mechanic, not at all. What i'm simply saying is adding one, maybe two guys (In Thaddeus' case). Why? On the harder levels, an extra man would make a huge difference, and it's closer to the actual Warhammer make up. and it won't destroy the game mechanic. also, give the extra man a proper weapon. maybe a plasma cannon/missile launcher on the dev's, and a flamer on the tac's. scout could have a rifle or shotgun.
there are already mods that accomplish this, but i'd rather see what relic could do with it.
The ability to equip even one other marine per squad. Like, a corporal or something. it does tie in to what i said before, but, well...
flame pistols (for thaddeus and the FC), melta guns, lascannons, etc.
Librarian or Chaplian. Maybe as part of a command squad in campaign? Again, wouldn't make that much difference to the mechanic, and we'd get to see some badassery from the commander (even moreso). or even give him an apothecary or techmarine, i dunno. something.
New addons for the
Spoiler:
Thule Dreadnought. Termie's get heavy flamers, assault guns, hammer/shields, power fists, etc etc. Thule gets what, a machine gun (albeit an impressive one) and a gold plated hand? Why not a flamer attached to the hand like on the intro? Why not a missile pod to make him a hellfire dreadnought? The name of the game is suppression, well, Hellfire Dreadnoughts rule when it comes to that.
Plasma cannons annihilate buildings as well.
However, when I went through on Captain I used all three Terminator suits (not for Thaddeus- agree his jump is too useful). This is because I found a decent assault cannon for Terminator Avitus (which I never did on Sergeant) and this made a big enough difference for me to put him in the armour. The range on the assault cannon was far too useful against bosses- he must have taken out 80% of the Avatar's health on his own, just spray firing that thing at range.
I'd be willing to entertain the possibilities of a modest squad size increase. They've been admirably restrained for the geme release; now trhey should tinker to see what can be done. Besides which, not all campaigns can be like Space Marine 'all my people are super super super double elite' types.
I'd be interested in seeing other faction campaigns being RADICALLY different. Like an IG campaign where your hand picked squads are not running solo like the Marines do but fighting alongisde hordes of NPOC controlled grouind forces that you can assign via the campaign screen, or something of that persuasion. After all, unless it got silly you could never control as many IG forces as you would need to give you the same punch as Marines, nor would it feel right to keep outfitting them with better gear; the General maybe, the Commissar, sure, but not the squad sergeants.
Lascannons MUST be being saved for the IG. I know Marines use them in fluff but they have to keep some distinctiveness back.
It;s already been hinted that they have plans for Librarians. Chaplains... not saying they will never come but they must be a lower priority because their gaming purpose, single or multiplay, is very similar to the Force Commander.

aye, something that has warmed my heart on many an occasion.

i might have to give him another chance, then...

yeah. i just want them to give me the manpower for missions that really could do with a couple of extra guys...

yeah, thats true. their campaign would have to be terribly different.

uhuh ok then...

yeah, thats true. i'm just a fan of them after seeing him in winter assault and in the comics... mad b*stards, the lot of them.
Regardless- though the campaign is not perfect, and although the Eldar didn't feel right, and despite it feeling slightly odd to have insanerly strong 'Level 20' slugga and gaunt units takign on Terminators and so on... the fact remains that this is the freshest and, in the end, most enjoyable single player campaign I have had since Starcraft, and even Starcraft only scored kudos for creatign an engaging plot/setting from scratch.
Well, kind of from scratch anyway, as of course the style was all ripped off from Warhammer.
But yes, I was very impressed with the campaign. If they can build on and improve it then this iteration of the fracnhise could move from 'good game' to 'classic'.
Though for that they will also need to 1. radically improve the skirmish AI (the coder responasioble has directly said the AI will be revamped in the first major code patch, in a few weeks) and 2 get more maps and map varieties in.
oh, no, i agree fully. the campaign itself is brilliantly executed at times. it feels like an actual story with progression, not just moving from map to map like some desktop napoleon. the characters were cool, the missions at times were great (walking in on a tyranid/ork battle and wondering whether to get stuck in was just awesome). i mean, most of the problems i have with it are niggles. the bulk of the game has nothing wrong with it campaign wise.
i still havent played online or skirmishes though.
