i think they round out the universe. watch the IG get slaughtered, too, adds even more gore to the levels 😈

I wouldn't be surprised if we get IG next, after all, some of their units even appear in the campaign.

I hope it's the chaos, though.

why not both? in the first game, we got two new races per expansion (not sure about winter assault, but we did in DC and SS). they have IG mods already (over on the relic news forum) so polishing them off and sticking in the chaos with them wouldnt be a massive thing, imo.

unless they want to do new campaign modes, of course.

Could possibly be two. Winter Assault was just one, yeah, and the rest were two.

ah, yeah, thanks.

at this point, though, i'm just hoping we get our expansions soon. I want to see what they'll come up with...

Jonny Ebert stated that due to the difficulty of creating new races in the more complex environment that we should only expect one per expansion.

Could change, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Bad news for your Tau, Ush!

Meanwhile, current ddeveloper efforta are going into solving the 'pop cap' buig that is currently buggering multiplayer (long story short, you start to 'over pay' for units during Skirmish games until you cannot buiold any more despite being well shrot of your maximum).

This bug came in as a result ofa mistake made in a Day 0 bug fix that removed an old bug where dead Space Marines Sergeants could not be built.

Now, here is where the patching structure of DOWII comes into focus. Apparently there are now two types of patching. 'Code-side' patches are very powerful and wide ranging, but because they mess with the base game code they need to be 'certified' to work with Microsoft, and this certification process takes time- two weeks or so. Relic have a number of other major issues (not fully specified at this time) that they need ceritifed.

The other sort is a 'data side' fix. These do not require certification but cannot do as much, or are more complex, or some such thing. Anyway, data-side patches have already been isused to solve bugs like, for example, one bug that buggered up Campaigns by having missions not spawn.

Here is where all this is going: The Pop Cap bug took all of 15 minutes to fix code-side, but as there are these other 'major issues' that Relicv want fixed code-side, that fix is having to wait until all of these changes have passed certification, which is apparently not yet.

So Relic have been trying to fix this bug data-side, but that went wrong the first time they tried it. They now promise that the data side fix (described by the programmer as 'gruesome'- apparently fixing stuff data side is crude) should be out in the next few days- it is currently being beta-tested.

Once the code-side patch comes out it will all be fixed perfectly and elegantly, but the delay in the data-side 'in the meantime' patch has annoyed many players.

Perhaps most crucially, it has delayed any balancing. Relic cannot get accurate data on race balance issues whiilst this major bug exists, throwing off genuine gameplay data.

Bottom line- work on developing DOWII further has halted until that darn bug is squished.

On the other hand, Relic are promising big things for the first code-side patch, which should be here in a few weeks. They say it will add many 'much demanded' features, not least of which is the major AI revamp they have talked of.

Complicated business, running games these days...

I know, it's a nightmare. And my back-up race is Necrons. Boo!

I'm very familiar with Microsoft's requirement for testing. It's a two week process if you're lucky. There have been some cross platform games that had a big patch coming out, the PS3 version got it anywhere from 2 weeks to a month in advance. It can be agonizingly slow.

I'm not entirely certain what all thos code-side/data-side distinction is, but the vibe does definitely seem to be that jury-rigged quick fixes can be done data-side, but all the real stuff has to be code and go through that process, and because of that they liek to get all the code-side stuff done in big batches rather than have to go through certification several times, hence the pop cap code fix being held up as other code-side stuff is prepped.

I don't know if the first code-side patch will be the big stuff they have promised or if it will just be decent bug fixes and the new stuff will come a bit later. Regardless, I think a watershed moment for DOWII will be when those improvements come out- if they are decent, people will have considered the process worth the wait.If not, it's all just a big pain in the arse.

dude, we know. we're just trying to be optimistic... durfist

you should try it sometime 😛

I'm optimistic about the improvement patches they are promising! All this game needs is worthwhile AI 9that the fans can then mod for evenm moe) and 4v4 maps and I;ll play it to death with my friends.

Talking of which- I have some replays of me playing ranked 3v3 games that may be of use for those trying to get into DoWII's awkward-to-learn skirmish mode. Anyone interested?

I look forward to a powerful/clever A.I opponent as well.

at least you're optimistic about something. 😛

how do you record replays, thats what i'd like to know. i had the most badass thing happen to me yesterday. i was playing skirmish 3v3, and was the space marines (naturally). was fighting the tyranids. i hold out in the centre of the argus gate map only barely. we're doing ok, but guys are dying. so then, they send in a carnifex. so about 6 razorbacks, my plasma dev's and missile tac's and FC jump in, and we manage to only barely take him down. so i breathe a sigh of relief, and then notice i can call in terminators. i drop em in, JUST as another carnifex enters the field and makes a beeline for my terminators. i'd already clicked the shoulder missile launcher upgrade, so there's a race between my upgrade and the big lumbering b*stard.

he's about ten feet away (in gaming terms) when i get the upgrade, i target the actual carnifex with it, who has now closed to about 6 or 8 feet. the terminator looks up, and hits the carnifex with EVERY SINGLE missile. it was the most insane thing i'd ever seen.

also, got a nice sync kill with my FC on a warboss today too.

There is a 'save replay' button in the post-match screen.

*bangs head off of wall*

yeah, i should pay more attention... mhmm

And if you forget, your last game is always recorded as 'temp.rec' inside your Playback folder, which yuo will find inside My Documents/My games/Dawn of War 2.

Copy and rename it to keep it.
