Indeed. They wanted to do 6 totally unique ones but they hadn't the time, so I think the campaigns will share certain plot essential missions, though presumably against different bad guys.
But what is for sure is that all six factions have a different central mechanic and RPG progression system- as I mentioned above, for example, the Tyrannids are working on a single hero basis.
Also it seems all campaigns will now have you building your own troops a la standard RTS games, thus effectively undoing one of DoW 2's original single player concepts. And fair enough, I think; it didn't work as well as planned.

i can dig it. will give me the chance to play the factions i didn't really touch due to never really getting in to multiplayer...

Ork Edition (Steam Exclusive)
Space Marine Edition
Imperial Edition
Eldar Edition
Chaos Edition
Double Pack-Blue Edition (Dawn of War 2 and Retribution)
Double Pack-Red Edition (Chaos Rising and Retribution)
Complete Edition (Dawn of War 2, Chaos Rising and Retribution)
Beta announced- February 1st if you pre-ordered on Steam, or the 8th if you own a DoW2 game or bought any DoW1 game on Steam.
Playing the beta now. Skirmish only, so no glimpse of the new campaigns, Last Stand Heroes or, as I understand it, a whole new Last Stand course- of interest to me.
As for skirmish... well, ok, fair enough. The new units are good and I think they've done a grand job with the Imperial Guard. Very happy. But the fundamental issues remain- I just don't enjoy DoW2 skirmishing. This is a little bit because the fundamental small-unit scale on which it works is not as fun as DoWI or CoH, but a LOT to do with the fact that the AI is still absolutely atrocious; unbelievably bad. It's not just that it's not very good- it actively cannot play the game correctly, and so fighting it is not just easy, it is intensely boring, which is the real sin. They said they were going to improve the AI and never did; it is extremely frustrating as this could be so much more for someone like me.
There aren't even any mods for it!
Are we allowed to talk about Dawn of War 1 in here? Becuase I just got Soulstorm (which according to teh internet sucks) and I keep getting my ass kicked on Hard. Medium is too easy, but after being sodomised by the Imperial Guard I feel it necessary to learn whether its the difficulty or if I just suck.
Soulstorm does not suck anywhere near as much as some claim. The campaign is worse than Dark Crusade's and the flying units probably weren't a great idea, but it's a very viable game and since they got the patch out for it it's as balanced as that many factions could be.
The AI actually knew how to play DoWI, though it's just rush heavy; you need to get a viable defence up quickly and then it's an easy kill (your advanced units will smash it easily). Once you learned how to beat it you could install the fan-made skirmish AI mod and that extended the lifespan of computer fighting for a long time. Good stuff.
What are you playing?
I played Medium as Necron and Tau (liked the Tau more) but after a few hours with each I was just steamrolling pretty much everything so I started a Hard with Sisters of Battle, figuring that the Imperial Guard, punching bag of the future would be easy. facepalm2 So far the Tau are my favourites. Set up a shield of Kroot meat and blast away. Nice.
Yeah, I'm having alot of trouble with them rushing me. I tried attacking the Dark Eldar just now and had about 50 Reavers shoved up my ass inside of 10 mins. 😆 Thanks for the advice, I'll try turtling like mad and see where that gets me.
