Star Wars: The Old Republic [KOTOR MMO]

I'm still looking foward to this myself, there are several things that excite me about the game and the trailer for the Jedi class was pretty cool. I really like the idea of companions. One thing I heard in the Forum for example was the idea of having an apprentice as a companion for high-level characters. That would be so effing awesome.

And maybe it won't be a simple as damage class, tank class. It looked to me like they might be going for a buff/debuff angle instead. Which is a bit more tactical. IDK, wait and see I guess.

The Consular advanced class names are out.

Jedi Shadow and Jedi Wizard.

Yup. Wizard.

You may cry now.

You're a couple hours behind the thread in the EU section. 😛

But yes, tears can now flow.

-sighs-

Why, Bioware, why? The one game that above all else you should not **** up...

The TOR community is also exceptionally aware that the GW2 demo kicked the crap out of the TOR one at Gamescon. BW needs to raise its game immensely.

Yeah, looking at the played demo it looks way better than TOR. God.. I'm so disappointed.

What gets me is that TOR doesn't even look like a Bioware game. It's very light looking and cheery and kind of kid-like. And that's just the aesthetic, the game play looks horrid.

lol. I've been looking at videos and comparing.

There's several class displays. So compare this:

To any TOR video that's out. GW2 looks soooo much more intresting, lol.

I am sure Bioware can pull out something better than what they have, but... they've just failed to present the product. It looks, right now, as if GW2 is demoing a product that is out for Christmas whilst BW is in the early stages of something years away- whilst in fact both products are at roughly the same stage with a vague 'next year' release, and TOR may well come out first. It is weird that Bioware is not making a better effort.

(It's never going to look as good as GW2, though, as they've just not gone in that direction. Still no excuse for the piss poor excerpts they've shown.)

(... Wizard? Seriously?)

Haha, dude, Ush, GK, and I have been following GW2 ridiculously close. So we know.

Yes, TOR isn't even a candle next to what GW2 has shown so far.

Wizard. What the **** is that? Holy crap...

I am so, so terribly depressed now. If they continue this route, I may very well skip the game entirely.

And miss out on being Gandalf the Jedi? With a pointy Jedi hat?

...maybe I'll play it ironically. Is massive crushing irony worth a monthly fee?

I'm going to go with "probably no".

Spoiler:
Revan lives...

Clicky

Interesting concept is interesting. I would love for this to get implemented. It would be so hardcore and badass to track a player into a secluded map and then just blast the sucker in the head. Just as it would be cool to live in fear of that happening to you. It would definately add points to the bounty hunter class.

Thoughts of this? Or are we only interested in GW2 now?

I am still willing to give this an even chance at convincing me, but right now I am not persuaded to pay the fee. That I am even considering it speaks for something, as fees are a huge turn off.

Anyway, it's not a good idea- it will just lead to harassment. Any form of open PvP is also not a great idea, and happily TOR is steering clear of that.

I agree that it could only be good if implemented decently. But I don't think it would be difficult to create a system that would limit the amount of harassment or cheese.
This system seems cool

No, it's still against the basic design philosophy of the game; a philosophy I strongly agree with.

That is trying to get the feel of a single player RP into an MMO. In those games, the idea that you could end up being constantly harassed by enemies, over and over, would be seen very negatively. The idea of other players doing it to you is just hideous, and even worse that people could pay other players to continuously go after you. Players should be able to play through missions with absolutely no chance of being molested. The only time you ever fight other players is if you enter a specific PvP area.

On another practical level, it would play merry hell with the continuity of the plotline when playing through the game.

It definitely will not happen- a good thing.

SWTOR looks like garbage, Guild Wars 2 looks fun, but by far the best MMO coming out is Tera:

Graphics are unmatched and the combat system is even better than Guild Wars 2.

Bioware is a good company and make great games, but the direction they took for SWTOR makes me question the quality of the game.

Almost every comment in that video is about how the commentators are unrealistically hyping it. Did some research, the game didn't impress people very much at all during the beta, and apparently the fights actually are very generic.
