Star Wars: The Old Republic [KOTOR MMO]

Well within reason imo. It would be pretty stupid to see a Pureblood Sith Jedi running around. 😬

Some faction exclusive races would be better. Purebloods and maybe Rattatak for the Empire, Miraluka and Ithorians for the Republic.

Or just get rid of that ridiculous 'sith race' thing entirely and let people create the characters they want.

There is no reason why I should not be able to make a Mirialan bounty hunter, damnit.

Yes, that Sith Race thing is a clunky bit of EU baggage. It is staggeringly obvious that the Sith were never meant to be a race any more than the Jedi were.

I really doubt a Miraluka would side with the Sith after their entire planet was consumed by Nihilus. And I personally like the origins of the Sith race. *shrug*

As a whole, maybe not, but individually...yes, it would probably happen. Yeah, they use the excuse of personal stories, but...that's just a lazy excuse.

(and that was just a colony planet that was ruined by Nihilus, not their homeworld or anything...)

Thank you, thank you.

Hmm, I distinctly recall Atton mentioning that Miraluka were almost extinct becuase their home planet got blown up. Or at least that they were 'rare', which leads me to believe that a sizable chunk of their species got vaped.

I've found nothing saying as such on wookieepedia...all of the Miraluka on Katarr were killed (except Visas), and their original homeworld became uninhabitable, but that was not Katarr and they had a different planet as their adopted homeworld.

Crew Skills

'The Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ galaxy is rich with valuable resources, high-tech schematics, and intriguing opportunities, but what hero has time to devote themselves personally to so many pursuits? That’s where your crew comes in. The Crew Skills system allows you to take advantage of everything the galaxy has to offer without getting in the way of your adventure! You’ll assign your crew of companions to gather resources, craft useful and valuable items, and even to undertake their own missions, bringing you and the rest of the crew a variety of benefits and rewards. Crew skills keep you in the action while you take advantage of all the galaxy has to offer!

Your Starship is home base for you and your crew. While you’re exploring the galaxy and progressing through your storyline, you can relay orders back to the ship. You’ll be able to assign tasks to your companions to gather resources, to craft items at the ship’s workstation, or to embark on special missions. Based on their personal backgrounds, some companions will be more proficient with certain skills, and the higher their opinion of you, the better they’ll perform across the board.'

I'll admit, this looks ****ing awesome. I'm concerned that this'll mean less in-depth companions than we were lead to believe, but knowing Bioware, I'm confident this won't be the case.

SW:TOR! Now with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood action!

People are supposed to be excited they can get the computer to play the game for them? This is an MMO, longevity and amount of things to do is one of the main things the genre as a whole has going for it. Is it just gonna be set up so that you come back to your ship and the game's allotted a pile of resources for you?

Skeptical, is the gist.

Darth Hater interview on Crew Skills

That pic was aimed at you btw GK, not tangentially related to the Darth Hater link.

Personally I don't see what the problem is, unless you're forced to use the feature. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with allowing people to dump time into only the things they want to do, while letting the computer handle the more mundane things. It caters to both the hardcore grind lover and the casual short attention span 8 year old.

The Sith as a name, actually originated with the species in the Tales of the Jedi comics. It was only afterwards that the name was then applied to Vader and Sidious and the Rule of Two that the movies centred themselves around.

It just seems like a poor mechanic for an MMO. AI NPCs that can work with you - sure, that's not a big deal. GW used that to good effect, since everything was instanced. Letting them go do their own things...I don't see the point or how that will work out well.

Wrong. The word 'sith' was first used in the novelization of A New Hope...which was actually published in 1976, a year before the movie came out; Vader is referred to as a Sith Lord. Tales of the Jedi came out nearly 20 years later, which is certainly long after all of the original movies. The term Sith most definitely did not originate in those comics.

Only in revised editions, actually. It originated in the TotJ comics and that is where Lucas decided to apply it to the films.

No, that is incorrect, and I'm curious where you came up with that idea since everything I'm finding disagrees with you and states that the first use of the word Sith was in the ANH novelization, in 1976.

The sith species may have originated in those comics, but the word Sith most certainly did not.

Indeed this is untrue. 'Sith' is a George Lucas term that he used a lot in the development of ANH, though in the end he did not use it in the film. However, Vader was described as a Sith for most of ANH's inception (changed to 'Lettow' at one point, as a trivia nod, and then changed back) and he finally got around to using the term in the prequels. Alan Dean Foster was working from GL's notes when he wrote the ANH novel, so he used the 'Sith' term from it as GL intended.

The EU authors nabbed the term because he had used it in early drafts, but their interpretation of what it meant was totally removed from GL's own.

These days, most sources use GLs interpretation- with good cause- Darth names and all, and the old EU idea that the Sith were a distinct race is aberrant.
