Star Wars: The Old Republic [KOTOR MMO]

TOR was going to live and die for a lot of people, on the saber combat being interesting and unique, so that's not a great sign.

At least the ships are wintastic.

Really what research and who didn't it impress? The fights involve around a non auto targeting system, that alone makes any battle more than just generic, add it tactics and strategy like dodging(evasion), or forming a shield wall to protect mages makes it more entertaining than anything I've seen from either guild wars 2 or swtor.

I'm pretty excited.

What class do you think you guys will choose if you get this game? I'm leaning towards Smuggler

Imperial Agent or Sith Inquistitor.

If I even bother, Sith Warrior will be the only thing to somewhat interest me.

BioWare needs to step up their game.

Agreed. And same here, Sith Warrior, though I find it too singular in purpose and generic. Assuming I bother with the game at all.

I was heavily interested in Bounty Hunter at first, but as I already know that I won't be able to make the character I intended to initially with that, it's become a case of "why even bother".

I'm usualy really biased when it comes to BioWare games, but even I can't muster much enthusiasm for SW:TOR at what we have seen so far, especialy when we have things like GW2 around the corner.

As far as class go, I think I'd like to be a Force user, and a good one at that, so some kind of Jedi.

I'm surprised people aren't more excited for this game. Then again, I've never gotten into mmo's. I'm just a star wars fan and I loved KOTOR, and I'm interested in getting into the mmo scene. What is it about this game that people are disappointed in already?

Basically, when it was first announced there was a ton of potential and promises of new, interesting ideas. Eventually, more updates and reveals have shown it to be, essentially, a WoW clone, and decisions like restricting your race to the class you play have been generally met with confusion and annoyance.

Basically, before they actually released any information on the game, it looked great.

The more they've released, though, the further downhill it's gone. I'm a hardcore SW fan and was really looking forward to TOR initially. I know GK was as well. Now...not sure if I'll even bother trying it out.

After ME2 and DAO having been released recently I think that everybody was looking towards SWTOR for another great game. That and the massive overhype of the game make it seem like a less than mediocre game. The developers made promises they couldn't keep so now everytime you see the result, you instinctively think back to what you were expecting and the game seems horrible in comparison. If they didn't hype it so much and had been less, well arrogant, in the interviews then nobody would have cared that it was in fact just another one of many MMOs, instead they would have been happy to have a SW MMO at last.

Considering I hate the typical MMO structure, I was specifically counting on this game to be different from the rest.

A couple of recent industry swipes at this one:

Though frankly the idea that George Lucas is panicking seems silly.

I'm kind of amused by how the God of War creator complains about how game development brings out the worst in people... whilst cursing and generally raving.

Yeah I doubt Lucas is panicking...he's had worse to panic over.

Lecturing Bioware about how overrated good game storys are.

he has a big pair, i'll give him that."

From the Bioware bigwigs.

It can be inferred that TOR might be later in 2011 than some thought- though possibly good news that, actually- and some interesting (though very political) responses to the purported insider leak I linked to above.

Oh! And here's a good one!

Looks like the Jedi Wizard is dead! Woo!

Anyone who votes to keep it Wizard must be banned form all things Star Wars forever. Any of the new names is better.

I don't particularly like any of the new ones that much, but they are definitely miles better than 'wizard'.

Now, just get rid of that silly "race is tied to class" thing...
