I started with a Sith Inquisitor, then tried Jedi Knight, and Imperial Agent. Got both the Forcies up to advanced class, Assassin and Sentinel respectively.
I think, of the three, the Jedi Knight was the best experience. It felt like I leveled faster, and the story seemed better-written and more engaging. Far fewer events where I was getting Light/Dark points for no discernable reason.
But to be fair, the Agent was interesting too. The cover system was... pretty basic, but the story went in a very different direction, emphasizing the class' role of subterfuge and sabotage. It included several BioWare and film noir cliches, but it was told well enough that it felt more like an homage than used.
For the Advanced classes, Assassin seemed more interesting, as it added a stealth element to combat. For the Flashpoint I played, being able to stealth made me a unique asset to the team, going around and taking out the peripheral attackers from behind.
I didn't know this was serious business. 😐
Maybe I'd give more shits about his opinion if I knew who he was or actually cared about what he thought. But I don't. I've read literally dozens of reviews. Some of them were negative, most were highly positive.
He mentions that theres a disconnect between the gameplay and the story, that you can't affect the world of Swtor. This isn't true. Throughout all the stories you make serious actions. I don't want to spoil anything, but lets just say quite a few characters aren't going to make it to the expansions, and I'm not taking about your Average Joe Sith here. Maybe he mean means permenent changes, but even if they're still standing around or something, I still killed him. I don't care.
He criticises the gameplay, which I don't care about. I'm strictly in it for the story and the lore, which he admits is good. Likewise he points out minor problems with UI and game design. Nothing I give a shit about.
The only thing I'm actually worried about is the lack of variety in fights. I can see how this can be a major problem and hopefully Bioware will try to improve this.
You literally cannot and do not effect anything in the world, though; that's simply something that comes of having a world with no phasing at all. Which is really quite odd, as the game has a lot of instances and hence there's certainly the potential for your actions to have some effect (at least on a personal level), but it just doesn't happen.
He says the story is "good" - the exact phrasing he uses is that it'd make for a mediocre novel, and also that it's incredibly predictable (which, yeah, it definitely was). I've always found Bioware stories on the "meh" side of good, myself, so I wasn't terribly impressed with what happened - it was just all so generic.
As far as what I played, I did Jedi Knight (leveled to Advanced Class, which I picked Sentinel), Sith Inquisitor (got bored with very quick, the story wasn't interesting at all - which is sad as I usually go Dark Side rather than Jedi in SW games), and Bounty Hunter (only got to about level 5 on, but I made that character the last few hours I was playing; fairly entertaining). I don't know if I was doing something wrong, though, but there was no cover system I could figure out with my Bounty Hunter, which is just really poor design for a ranged class. Jetpack propelled melee attacks are pretty damn hilarious, though.
Hell, I didn't try to log on until about four hours after the test started last time, and I still waited about half an hour.
And now I can't even log in anyway as they decided to make everyone reset their passwords...and they're taking their sweet time sending out the reset emails it seems.
Edit: Oh, look. A new build requires redownloading 12GB worth of stuff again. It's like the game doesn't want me to play or something. Why the hell couldn't they just add a small patch like, well, every other game to add in new content?

Ah, the joys of beta testing. Isn't it grand?

For some reason they only have one English server in Europe and it was insanely busy; I came in on an American one instead.
Really? I had five or six English ones to choose from.
So far I've played Sith Inquisitor to lvl 10 (not figured out how to specialize yet), and a Bounty Hunter to lvl 6.
I know it's not a giant evolution of MMOs like GW2 seems to be, but I'm enjoying it. I loved WoW, I love Star Wars, and I really like this game so far.
It may be a bit soon, but......... Rate Swtor!
