The Old Republic Becomes the Fastest-Growing MMO Ever

Woot. Suck it Phant!

I guess that makes Twilight and COD masterwork games and movies amirite?

To be fair, Call of Duty was pretty ****ing awesome up until the latest one.

Looks like this is still going strong.

Suck it Phant x2 combo!

Now we just brace for the storm of GW2.

Nice to hear, game was great, looking forward to returning to it whenever I get time.

It's kind of a lie to say that it's still growing when subs have remained at a steady number for something like a month now - that means for every person that joins, someone quits.

Also I'm definitely going to call the claim that they're producing content faster than people can get through it a lie. Every single person I know who got the game within a month of launch (which being involved in MMO communities like I am is a lot) is already out of things to do in it, and most have quit because of it. Sure, there's PvP...if you like that sort of thing...I suppose, but the actual game content isn't all that long.

I find it hard to believe that your friends completed all 8 class stories and all 17 planets in a month. Unless they play in bullet time. qnone

Where'd I say anyone finished it within a month? 😛 I said those who got it within a month of launch have already finished.

To be fair, I doubt anyone, at all, will finish all 8 class stories for the simple fact that not every class is fun to everyone. Which is why tying story to class (as opposed to species or race) is stupid, because then people will get stuck playing a class they don't like for the story.

Your face didn't say it was i-in..... and I... I mean......

You face is stupid!

Blizzard Admits The Old Republic Stung World of Warcraft

I have a question for anybody that's played the game at length:

Is space combat really worth investing time/credits in? I mean, will it enrich my actual gameplay experience when it comes to ground combat?

Space combat doesn't really do much beyond being a fun little side-game. You can rank up and get access to better gear, but I believe you'll always find better gear than what is found there somewhere else (this might have changed, not played since my free month).

The main reward of space combat is a shitload of experience points, so you can easily powerlevel with it... However as anyone who've played SWTOR will know, there are simply so many good quests around, that you'll never be needing to powerlevel (expect to always be 2-3 lvls above the rest of the mobs on a planet later on).

To sum up space combat: fun distraction, but not really rewarding.

Cool, thanks 👆

Want to check this out, is there anyway I can do a trial or something?

If you PM me your e-mail address I should be able to invite you for a 7-day trial if I can work out how.

I have mine at level 18, and I'm liking it so far. My only issue is that I should have picked Commando over Vanguard, because right now the majority of my best abilities only work from less than 10m. Which annoys me.

Really not surprised. Any mmo that could launch with numbers that huge was always going to have a big drop-off within a few months.

So, there were large scale lay offs on the Bioware Austin team lately- 150 people is the number floating around, including about a quarter of the TOR workforce, including Stephen Reid, the lead CM who has been fronting the game for years. Not good news for the game; it does seem that they are cutting costs to meet reduced revenue expectations. It's a particular PR blow for Bioware as they outright stated before launch, as part of their commitment to the game, that layoffs specifically would not happen after launch.

They are now announcing a permanent free trial version of TOR. With luck, they'll keep going this way and abandon the subscription fee entirely, and then I might buy it.

I havn't been able to play for about a month. Whenever I try my laptop overheats and shits itself. I have no idea why since I used to be able to play it just fine but apparantly this has been a problem for others too.

So its finally sinking.

Personally I blame the overabundance of servers. Bioware WAAAY overestimated how many people would be playing and theres just way too many servers with not many people in. And since it takes a reasonably long time to level and the Legacy system encourages you to creat all your characters on the same server, switching to a more populated server isn't something you want to do. This makes it really hard to find other people interested in grouping, PvPing, doing Flashpoints etc, since everyones so spread out. They really fvcked up there and need to merge the servers fast.

Of course, I don't actually care about how populated it is, I just want to play through the story and the game. But one of their patches much have pushed the game beyond my laptops ability to cope. I was playing fine until a month ago. Unless they make it free to play or patch it so I can play again I'm probably going to cancel my subscription since theres no point paying for a game I can't play.
