The statition in me would say it's an error.

Apparantly not. Looks like their China servers crapped out for a few months. I didn't know they had so many subs in China.

I'm willing to bet a significant number of them are gold farmers.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect are generic, though. Dragon Age especially - there's literally nothing about it (either of them) that sets it apart from any other standard fantasy/sci-fi story.

And when they go on about making a brand new game (at one point they refered to SWTOR as the most innovative MMO ever)...yeah, it is a bad thing.

😐

i think i have nothing more to say to you.

well, that would do it.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect indeed are quite generic(especially DA). Generic is not necessarily a bad thing, however. Most games and other kinds of fiction are pretty generic nowadays; there are simply no more unique ideas left(that don't feel like someone came up with them while on PCP.)

Saw at IGN that more rumours about SWTOR going Free-To-Play are surfacing, hopefully there are truth to them.

Good news indeed. The amusing thing about the interview is the concession that the MMO market is changing- amusing in that that was equally true during TOR's development, and plenty of people said so. The change was already there; they had just missed it.

Anyway, hopefully this happens and TOR will be the final nail in the coffin of the traditional subscription model.

I also think it would be the wisest thing they can do. TOR is in my opinion a great game, when you look at the "singleplayer" story etc, it just can't compete against WoW and GW2. Make it free and players will flock to play.

So this game is dying already? A shame, I have friends who enjoy it. Originally I considered joining, but I'm resigned to the idea that I'm never going to adopt a new MMO again. My gaming has been declining for years, and MMO's demand too much of my time, since I would want to take it seriously.

Still a long way from dying yet, but it's on a downward trend.

So as per the advice from you guys I got a cooling mat and it let me play for a few hours but my laptop still shat itself eventually. I checked and it wasn't even that hot. So it must be something is corrupted or something to do with TOR.

Just to check- is there any way you have V-sync forced off? I know some games cause an FPS overload because they are intended to be throttled by v-sync.

It's set to Applications Settings. Should I turn it on? TBH I'm not too familiar with the technical side of gaming.

I'm no genius on it either, and I don't even know if TOR supports it or even needs it on in main card settings.

What I do know is this:

1. Some games have an issue whereby the FPS number goes stupidly high because the graphics card isn't told then to stop trying, as it were. The Starcraft 2 title screen had that issue at first, I think.

2. A similar issue is happening to some people in another game I play, which whilst a very CPU intensive game really shouldn't be breaking the gpu bank. There, especially, people affected have been asked to check if their v-sync is forced off, as it is meant to run with it on.

3. Having v-sync on SHOULD, if fully supported, limit your frame rate to your monitor's refresh rate. So if- and it's a big if- this is an FPS overload issue and TOR works in this way, that may help. It's helped in other games.

4. However, if it is set to application settings, I'd just check to see if TOR itself has an option for it.

I assume your card is supported, btw?

Thanks, I'll look into it. Yes, I'm pretty sure my card is supported. I tested it out on a website before purchasing.

Nope, it improved my framerate, but my laptop still shut down after 45 minutes.

What card is it?

Intel® HD Graphics.

Lots of people have the same problem.

I was playing it fine for months though. It doesn't make much sense to me unless they updated the game past my laptops ability to handle. And even then, my game plays fine, better than ever in fact.
