yeah but how could you ensure that without Delph setting some time limits for responses?

I mean without a time limit, Blair/Smurhp could (Im not suggesting they will) be dicks and just save all of their posts for Dec 9 knowing you won't be able to respond after that

---

My suggestion to Delph: Issue a 24 hour time limit for responses. If neither team makes a post in 24 hours, the match will be deemed over.

Would be nice, actually. Otherwise it could last "till cows come home" (or how does that proverb sound).

So far I'm entertaining myself by reading some very funny piece of fanfiction- featuring KOF characters in LOTR setting (starring K' as Aragorn, though the author got his eye colour wrong, making it brown instead of blue\grey, but overall funny read done with respect both to SNK franchise and Tolkien's masterpiece)... what can't you do out of boredom. Have a day off today, so I got really bored by the evening.

lol thats pretty wacky fanfic...not that Im familiar with KOF or LOTR, but I know enough to realize they don't mesh normally

you should try video games if you're bored.

I know, darling🙂 Tried that as well today🙂

In fact, reading creepy fanfiction starring my favourite chars (K', Emma Frost, etc) is my way of getting into proper mood for KMC tourneys.

The thing I'm reading now. Guys like psycho gundam can enjoy that and get humour.

So you guys want a time limit?

at least 2 of the 4 teams (digi and charlotte) have indicated wanting a time limit of some sort

I didn't say that. I was actually the one who first proposed no time limit. I simply pointed out the observation that it may become a problem. As it stands, I'm still tentatively for no time limits, though your idea of maximum amounts of time between posts sounds reasonable. It will need to be hashed out some if it's instituted, since there's even a couple potential problems with such a mandate, and possibly only for the finals, since doing it now would be switching mid-match.

my bad, didn't mean to misconstrue you thoughts

but personally though, as it currently stands (with no time constraints of any kind), it just seems like a bad system as you don't know when and if your opponent will respond. I mean how many days are you willing to wait for your opponent to respond before Delph needs to do something (2 days, a week, a month? see how arbitrary it becomes). People need an idea in of time in order for things to be done in an orderly fashion. Without any time limits, there will simply be disorder.

And with everyone having busy schedules, you need to have an idea of when your opponent posts so you can fit in your own tourney writing time.

How about 10 days (current match duration being 12/3 and ending at midnight on 12/13), which would be 2.33 times the length of a normal match?

thats a bad idea imo because that still doesn't solve the issue Digi brought up in the first place

ie. lets say its a 10 day time. One team decides to unleash all their posts on day 10, leaving no time for their opponent to respond.

So my suggestion is rather than set a time limit for the match, set a time limit for posts in a match, perhaps 24 hours. So if no one posts in a match for 24 hours since the last post in the match, then the match is deemed over.

I think this system would work best in instilling predictability while still allowing flexibility.

How about if a team waits until the final moments to make a whammy post the opposing team has a chance to reply. Or both teams PM their final post to Delph?

Actually, I like Starscream's idea. I think I'll implement that, but only after all participants confirm they are aware of this new stipulation being in place, so I won't hold it against them until they post here and state they've read the terms. I'll send PMs after work.

Thanks Starscream.

no prob, glad to help. As a spectator, I enjoy seeing the tourney go as smoothly as possible.

btw, the 24 hr limit was just a suggestion, so you should see what the competitors think is a reasonable limit.

what about 10 days, but each day you don't post you LOSE a post. so if everyone waits til the last day, there won't be any blitzing because they'll only have one post left . . .

might encourage people to at least try and post once a day. maybe.

you could blitz with just one post

ie. you could include a crapload of points in the last post...leaving your opponent no time to respond

don't think there is anyway to avoid that kind of tactic altogether, but it would STILL only be one post and posts are limited by charaters. if your opponent used most of his/her posts one post at the end would NEVER be enough to counter all the points made and one desperate post at the end would likely look like just that--one desperate post . . .

It's open for discussion. At this point we're only at day 3 of the matches (which began on Wednesday morning), so it's not like these things are at an unprecedented, phenomonally slow pace, and I'm personally a very patient person. However, with the flex duration it does leave a possibility for abuse and extended matches, whereas time limits tend to lead to the "time quota rope-a-dope" where a team unleashes a barrage in the waning moments of the match when their opponent is either out of posts or has no time to reply.

It's a slippery slope either way.

you run the risk of waning interest as well if a match remains open and no one is posting in it . . .
