Is Canada's healthcare system perfect? No it isn't but it is better then what the US has in that it insures that whether your rich or poor you have the same right to live and be healthy.
If anything we need to move further away from a US style of healthcare and more towards allot of the systems in Europe.
We spend less in our taxes for our healthcare then you spend on your insurance payments. And we never have to worry about our coverage being revoked.
I've never understood why people think "Taxes" is such an evil word. We like having well-maintained roads and bridges, we like having police and firefighters to protect us and government programs to helps us when we need them, we just don't like to pay for it. Voters are like kids who think their parents money just comes out of nowhere and there is always more.
My issue with taxes is not the amount of the tax, but how it's being spent. I don't mind paying, just give me my moneys worth. When politicians repeatedly give themselves a raise (In our case it seems every time the parliament starts a new session.) or when they use the tax payer funds to subsidize vacations, then I have a problem with taxes. But if they would use the money on what its meant to be used for, serving the needs of the public then I have no problem with taxes.
And for the people who say "If we don't pay them enough, we won't get qualified people for those positions." Look at George Bush.
I think if we cut their salaries, we would recruit people who actually care about civil service and less about getting rich.
